The best thing about this audiobook is the performance of Jim Dale. I could listen to him read the phone book and find it interesting.
I enjoyed the story, especially waiting to see how the elements of the original Peter and Wendy book would be incorporated into it.
I would recommend reading Peter and Wendy (also known as Peter Pan) because it is good to be able to compare the two different stories. Also, I think that you can compare favorably the performance by Jim Dale in this story with his excellent job with the Harry Potter series.
The early scenes setting up the story were my favorite. I really enjoyed how the character Peter became a much more three dimensional person in this version compared to Peter and Wendy. He is not the one dimensional character of the original story.
Yes, although I think it is too long to do so. Again, Jim Dale's excellent reading of the story makes it a joy to listen to.
I have never really been a big fan of Peter Pan... BUT since Jim Dale was narrating this I thought it would be a good book to listen to on long car trips with my kids (He's such an excellent narrator). What I did not expect was to actually, really enjoy the story. It was a good enough story that I actually found that I like the world of Peter Pan as envisioned by these authors. This was truly a good and fun prequel to the Peter Pan story we all know and grew up with. Jim Dale of course is excellent. Highly recommended.
Yes, it was a fun adventure my daughter and I could listen to together. It flows with the original Disney Peter Pan
Great as always, the perfect voice.
How Peter becomes Peter
Worth the sale price for sure.
I would listen to Peter and the Starcatchers again and probably will when my husband listens to it! I love to listen to Jim Dale tell a story!
I don't want to give away any plot but there a few laugh out loud moments!
Jim Dale could make any story come to life! His range of voices and his character creations are wonderful!
I wish I could have!
Jim Dale's narration is wonderful. He totally carries you along in the story.
Black Stash - he's so evil and Mr. Dale performs his voice to perfection.
Heart pumping adventure.
I listened to this with my grandchildren and we all loved it. I thought that it would be a very typical youth book "starring" Peter Pan. Wrong! it was delightful and not only enjoyed by my pre teen and teenage grandchildren but also by myself. Jim Dale did a marvelous job on the voices and really brought the work to life. I am sure I will be listening again and again to this series.
Peter, George and of course the "Bird Woman"
Humor, depth and great voices that I could not even think up in my head. Superb!
Wouldn't want to spoil it for the rest of the listeners.
I will keep this in my library for myself and all of my family members. It would make a great gift too.
I have listened to dozens of books to date. I can honestly say that this book is the most "cinematic" that I have experienced. I can't say whether it's the flow of the story, or the writing style, or the narration... All are superb, and probably all contribute to some extent to the effect. The result being that, as I listened to Peter and the Starcatchers, the characters, scenery, and events unfolded in my mind as though I was watching a movie. It was an exhilarating experience.
The story starts out with just a passing resemblance to the well-known Peter Pan story, and as it progresses, more and more familiar elements are thrown into the mix, but in such imaginative ways that they continue to be fresh and unexpected. Right up to the very end, I was not sure what would happen next, but as the pieces fell into place, it just felt so natural that my immediate response was "Well, of course! That's the way it had to be!"
I was listening to Peter and the Starcatchers to evaluate it as a potential read for my son. He will definitely be getting a copy for his birthday, and I will be listening to the next book in the series very soon.
This first book of the Starcatchers was wonderful. I have always loved the Play Peter Pan and Disney made a great animated movie of J. M. Barrie's beloved Peter Pan. But Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson make a great adventure to how Peter became Peter and where Neverland and it's memorable characters come from.
Jim Dale is one of the best narrators, he has taken this delightful children's story and made it to where you will feel like you are flying with Peter on his adventures. Every narration that I have heard Jim Dale do is wonderful from the Harry Potters Series to this Starcatchers series you will feel as if you have been pulled right into the adventure will these heroes.
Never Read the print.
Definately Molly. She is so Confident and Smart but Sweet and Innocent at the same time.
When Molly is talking to the Porpoise. "My teeth are green.' lol
Every Child Grows up... To a point. I didn't get to see the Play but I would love to.
