Reading allows me to travel through time; to visit the world's unique and stunning places. To become somebody I am not... It is glorious.
The combination of Ms Carr and Ms Plummer works. Ms Plummer does an extraordinary job portraying these characters. It feels real as you listen and her style allows the listener to sink right into the story.
I enjoyed the parts of this book that explored pain, fear and grief. It was still a romance novel and I am sure Ms Carr's fans will enjoy the story as much as any other. But what I liked best was not the romance. It was the exploration of healing. We all encounter tragedy and sometimes even violence in one of its forms. I enjoyed seeing the characters react, then take time to heal. I found it believable that these characters would love one another because the author took more time to develop the friendship.
I couldn't get far into this book. I'm not sure who this kind of book appeals to.
This book was disappointing because it was a romance and part of a romance series. I'm not sure that it was advertised as such. I didn't realise untill it was mentioned at the beginning of the book. I try to choose books carefully unfortunately I got caught with this one.
The performance did not worry me
I was looking forward to spending my credit then very disappointed when I realised I would have to just trash the book.
This is my first book by this author. I purchased because it was on the $4.95 sale. I realize that they are attempting to catch the user up with characters from other books in the series, but too much time is dedicated to this task. The "courtship" of the two main characters did not hold my interest. I was surprised as the topic was not a "fluffy" story and normally I would enjoy the depth of topic
Not sure there is one suggestion, I will not read Robyn Carr again based on this book. It was very boring and I had a hard time staying awake through the audible. It felt like it was trying to hard to have depth and it didn't come natural to the author.
The only redeeming quality was the narrator. Therese Plummer does a good job, it was the story that didn't hold interest.
This story did nothing for me and I could not finish it. The performance was fine but the story lacked punch.
I'm not sure its one of the best of her series but she is getting better at focusing on the main characters rather than the old favorites. I think she needs to back off the womens health issues a bit too. They are starting to over shadow the story and its making the prospect of continuing with the series a little bit daunting. Its the story, the romance and the drama I enjoy - not the continued up close and personal look at all the characters lady bits. Seriously... Not everyone is obsessed with having babies or detailed descriptions of babys entering the world. Surely they could have worked out a better way to do that by now!!!
Fantastic reading by Therese Plummer though.
I like a romance novel to be about a man and a woman' s relationship, and how it evolves.
Seems like the author of this novel was once a gynecologist or midwife herself... far to much focus on giving birth, gyno exams, STDs, date rape, midwifery, and babies. Probably written for teens and very young women - too many parts of it came across as "educational" in nature.
The men, some of whom were really just boys, were all tall, handsome, muscular and just too darned "sensitive" to be be believable. No edge to them at all when they were around the women. And the women were all tiny, perfect and beautiful (except, of course, for the poor woman giving birth on the birthing video, who was described as sweaty and hairy). So unrealistic it was kind of sickening .... far too sappy and "sweet" for my taste.
A pet peeve....I hated that the men always said nah instead of no, and yeah instead of yes. And every woman's name was "baby" to them. Just got really annoying...they all sounded like a bunch of unsophisticated hicks. Small towns folks are just not that ignorant any more, if they ever were.
The narrator was just OK...not bad, but not great either. By the end of the story, the characters all sounded alike.
I started listening to this series in order, based on the reviews, and thought the first one was promising, and the second was just OK, but this one put me off completely. I will not be continuing with it.
Couldn't even finish listening to this . The whole thing is slow and has a lot of genealogical information that is extraneous to the plot.
no, great story but dont like her detailed sex decription, it does not seem to fit with the story.Could be so much better without that.
I was confused by the quick appearance of different characters. Perhaps reading the other books first might have helped. The plot, once it developed, was predictable. The "performance" was nothing special. I did finished the book to see if I had the plot figured out. I did.
ho hum yawn
