For anyone looking for a new vampire series to read, this one is really good! Probably my second favorite vampire series (Sookie Stackhouse being #1) Characters are all good and lovable :) Also, the narrator is good, on all the audiobooks of this series. I actually think the second narrator is even better because she doesn't do such a hard russian accent, which was making Dimitri seem a bit harsh in this first one. But love the series, and can't wait for the next book to come out this year!
I had my doubts about this book when I first read the description, but after I had finished it I couldn't wait to download the next two. If you want a scary vampire story this isn't it. Later on in the series the action gets a little more intense and there is definitely suspense but I would say these are a little more romantic than anything else. The first book has a different narrator than the other two and I would have preferred they stayed with the original narrator. She does a decent job with the accents and doesn't mispronounce any of the names or words. The second narrator later on though is terrible. All of the characters have the same voices and she pronounces several things incorrectly every time. It gets annoying but you can get past it quickly and after that the story is very interesting. I loved the idea of different forms of vampires and the good vamps versus bad vamps concept. I would recommend this book to women more so than men.. I don't think they'd enjoy it as much.
mostly ya fiction... mostly...
I really liked it, and will probably go out and buy all the books now. I will be revisiting this one at some point in the future. Very satisfying...
This is a great book, i as well as my god daughters have loved this whole series, though do to some of the content some parents might not find it excepable do to the sexual content. It was well written otherwise and well worth the read if you love Vampire novels with a romantic and mystery twist
I really liked this book. Very different from any other vampire book I have listened too. The plot was good, the characters were right, even the voices for the characters were right. Will be getting the other 2 books in ther series. If you like vampire books this is a must to add to your collection.
I couldn't stop listening. This is not your normal Young Adult Novel and I'm no where near a young adult. I am so glad I downloaded this book. It was a refreshing surprise. I couldn't remove my headphones and I immediately went to download the second book.
Vampire Academy is a great read. However, parents should be aware of the level of information given out in the book. Topics are spoken of through a fantasy world of Vampire, and Morey and such, but the parallel to taboo topics, such as drugs, sex and cutting, are the situations these characters find themselves. Even the topic of religion is discussed in terms of to believe or not to believe. So if you don't plan on speaking to your children about drug use, cutting, sex, or the existance of a divine being, you may not want them to read this particular book. However, if you are ready to have those discussions with your children, which you have to do at some point anyway, the novel hits on them directly. There are also your basic everyday teen situations that deal with gossip, clicks, and the "rumormill"; not to mention the use of profanity. Of course these are topics and situations that teens deal with daily, and will not be avoided as they journey into the real world. It's just a matter of timing and whether or not your child is ready to hear and deal with the content.
