I have been looking for a new series after Twilight and True Blood. This one did not hold my interest until I was near the end. It did draw me in enough to listen start on volume two, Frostbite. The storyline was slow and the book would probably appeal more to a female middle school age reader. The naration was good, especially the voice of Rose and Dimitri. They should have used the same narrator for Frostbite. The voice of Dimitri in the second volume is a real letdown.
I can say that this book surprised me in its depth, I was expecting a shallow teenage storyline. While there are definately parts of it that make you aware of the intended audience throughout, it was not so distracting as to take away from the underlying story and depth of character expansion. We can all relate to the main characters, and it is fun and exciting to see what they go through during this book. And it is a new and clever take on vampires and their backgrounds, giving them quite a history and heirarchy within a tight race of people.
i love this series sooo much that i'm buying the audio versions to listen to when i dont have time to actually read them. the only think i didnt like about the narrator was some of the voices she put for the characters. but that can be over looked.
I really enjoyed the book but the narration is awful. She makes some the character sound weak and moronic, almost to the point where it becomes distracting (i.e. Lissa and Mia). I see they chose a different narrator for the rest of the books. I hope it gets better.
The audio book author was HORRIBLE! Oh wow, her russian accent for the hot teacher... It was embarrassingly bad. It made everything sound like a joke. I don't think I would have even liked this book without this ridiculous author, but still it was so bad guys, so bad.
I am 36 years old and I know this goes under "teen" books.....but I thought all of this series was so great. There were times that I could not leave my car because I had to find out what happened next. You won' t go wrong by purchasing this book and all her others. What an awesome find!!! I love it when I find a great author who can hold my attention this well!!! Buy it NOW!!!!!
When reading a review of an audiobook, I really want to know what people thought of the narrator. A bad narrator can ruin a good book... Stephanie Wolf is okay on the whole. I found her portrayal of Lissa's voice very annoying (high pitched and whiny), but her Russian accent for Dimitri was really good. A separate note: I really like this series. I highly recommend it along with Mead's two other series (for adults).
I just loved the story, everything played out in order. All surprising, unexpected but fit the story as if it were happening. Great book, I loved it and will read it again. I have recommended it to friends too!! I have read the series and cant wait for the 6th book in the series. Its everything I could ask for in a young love, vampire, society and adventure story!!
What I Loved: This is one of the rare YA novels where neither of the lead characters got on my nerves, in fact they were both appealing and engaging. Their relationships with each other (best friends) and others were well written and fun to read. They were teenagers, they did some very "teenage" like things, but they were not annoying. The pacing of the story was fantastic and kept me interested until the very end.
