Social sci-fi, vampires, and modern detective thrillers, oh my!
This series is very imaginative and like no other Iv''e read. There are 2 types of vampires, one who can't defend themselves. The movie really didn't do the book justice at all.
Yes, indeed I recommended it to my sister. It's well written and the twists were, at least a little, surprising. I liked the characters, and at least the vampires don't sparkle...
The incident that was caused by the charm. I won't go into details and ruin the surprise.
I liked the different voices. While a tad difficult at times, they were mostly unique and I could differentiate the characters better.
It WAS made into a film....
I dialog is extremely juvenile. I truly believe that no high school student speaks that way. It was insulting
Love this series! I am so glad I took a chance with this series because the name does not do it justice. I love Rose, she is a very strong female character and I love reading books with her type in them! Side note: saw the movie and they did a pretty good job going along with the book, but if you have not read the book, the movie will be confusing.
Yes. It's enjoyable and a very easy, pleasant listen.
Mia. The girl we all knew and love to hate. Her dialogue is hilarious.
Yes but I wouldn't search for one.
Yes. It doesn't drag.
Much more enjoyable then twilight but don't expect anything revolutionary. This isn't a huge criticism, I enjoyed it very much but it hasn't changed my life.
Love my family...along with guitars, road bikes, cameras, and a good book!
I wasn't aware of anything about this series, or it's intended audience, so I accept some of the blame for my feelings about this book. I just felt that it was intended for a very young audience, and it didn't really appeal to me. However, the story was intriguing enough that I did purchase the 2nd book in the series. The characters were pretty good, and I thought that the storyline was unique enough to be pretty interesting. Not a rave review, I know, but hey...I didn't hate it.
Shallow girls with an IQ of a banana
Very simple writing. Plot was incredibly predictable. I'm so shocked this book is being made into a movie.
The story was redeemable if the writing was so horrible.
For literally YEARS, Audible has been listing this book in my recommendations. Every time I saw it, I would scoff and scroll past it. Then a few weeks ago came the fateful day...the day that I was out of credits, out of books to listen to, and broke! I was looking for a cheap, fun read to hold me until my new credits posted, and lo and behold, there was Vampire Academy...again. I think it may have been even cheaper than usual, so I bought it with no expectations. For the first hour or so, I was not impressed. The beginning of the story borders on silliness, but I kept listening because the story was so original and unusual (and again, I was broke and out of credits). After a while, I found myself actually wanting to know what happened next, I found myself smiling as I listened, and a few times I totally burst out laughing.
I don't want to give away any of the story, because I think part of the reason I liked this book so much because I knew NOTHING about it and none of my friends had read it, so I had no spoilers. It's definitely not high art or great literature. It's simply a light, fun, well-written, story that provides some escapist entertainment.
I enjoyed it so much, that I used my next two credits to buy books 2 & 3, then I bought three extra credits so I could get 4, 5 & 6 at a discount! If you like the YA/Fantasy genre, and are an older teen adult, this book is definitely worth a listen. I do not recommend it for teens under 16 because I'm a mom and a prude, and there are some mild sexual situations and plenty of underage drinking. Not to mention the occasional f-bomb. But, c'mon...it's soooo cheap. What do you have to lose?
And if you DO like the book, whatever you do, do NOT see the movie. That's two hours of my life I'll never get back. Instead, buy the next book!
No way. Why did I do this to myself? maybe this story is too young for my age... I don't know but Rose annoyed the absolute hell out off me as a character and the writing style was hard to connect with.
Possibly, I'll try something else in this genre and get back to you.
I find it hard to like female narrations, I don't know why. Unfortunately she had to fill big shoes and this story didn't help.
Cry about the loss of 8hrs I will never get back.
Maybe if the characters were better. I hate characters that thinks it alright to dominate other peoples lives but think they can do what they want. I hate Authors who make meek characters for others to dominate, making them look weak, Especially as a main character. There are exceptions to this. But this story was not it. It made me hate Rose as a character.
Love this site! I have a very busy job, so listening to audio books enables me to keep up on great stories!
A different narrator. Her voices are terrible. It's almost like she's mocking the characters.
Terrible voices. Her main man is Russian and talks a lot. Don't you think you would want to perfect the accent? It was painful. The supporting characters have a dopey tone. Why didn't someone fix this in the studio?
Will be requesting a refund. What a waste, the story was good.
