lover of good books
It was in the top 50%. I really don't care for a ton of swearing. I think the English language is a beautiful thing and only those who don't know how to use it, revert to the "F" bomb all the time. It could have been written without the vulgarity.
Lots of twists and turns. Loved that. Lots of people didn't like the FBI agent and said she was stupid. Actually I liked her and she was one character that was really real. She was an academic not a field officer. She caught a lot of breaks. . . but that is sometimes how life is. Sometimes things actually go your way even if you didn't make them happen.
This is not a read for the soccer mom. Try Baldacci or Brandon Sanderson for books you can listen to with kids that are also great stories.
Baby Boomer in Raleigh NC. Faves include James Lee Burke, CJ Box, Baldacci, Flynn, Child, DeMille, Crais, Connolly, Thor, Coes, L'amour. Average two books/week.
Fans of BobLee Swagger, Jack Reacher, Mitch Rapp and Dewey Andreas - meet Edwin Kriess.... and Kriess is angry and on the hunt. Uh oh!
I became a Deutermann fan several months ago and went thru his 4-book Cam Richter series in several weeks. This one is a stand-alone but could be a series. I guess the term "formula plot" is supposed to be a negative but not for me. With the familiar voice of Dick Hill, I am in familiar territory with a rugged iconic "operative" who has run afoul of the bureaucrats..... sound familiar?
Some reviewers analyze books like they critique wine. Not me. I like the story - the characters - the narrator. If you like those characters I noted above, I think you will like Hunting Season too.
I bought this book on sale and I am glad I did. It is a story about a rookie female FBI agent finding her self aiding an ex-undercover "cleaner" FBI agent and his his daughter who was kidnapped by a couple of zealous bomb makers who want revenge for the Waco debacle which killed the son. There are layers of cover ups that will hopefully disappear as soon as the ex-agent is eliminated.
The story is somewhat believable and fast paced. Dick Hill is one of my favorite narrators. Yes, I would recommend this book no matter if it's on sale or not.
This was a very action-packed book which for the most part, I enjoyed. Having said that, I did have a few issues with the book. 1/ There were just too many wordy, boring details given. 2/ Janet, the main female character seemed so weak, inefficient and to put it bluntly - stupid. Her successes seemed to have been by pure luck. It didn't help either that the narrator was unable to get a female voice that didn't sound whining and weak. 3/ The book went on for a couple hours too long. I was more than ready when it finally ended.
I'd still recommend it though, but maybe listen to it over the course of a week or two, rather than continuously (like on a car trip). It's just too much of the same thing all at one time.
Have "listened" to all of his books and this is the best yet! There's an unbelievable coincidence in the last part but no one is perfect. Characters are well developed and intriguing. Narration is excellent. Highly recommend this book.
Listened to this going to NH from Ohio and the return trip home. Thoroughly entertained the whole way.
Female voice was not the best but narration as a whole was very good.
I had never known of Peter D and found this book by following my favourite narrator to the title! An amazingly interesting and riveting story! Dick is always great but when given material like this to read , Dicks skills shine even more brightly ! Wow! A word of caution! Don't start this book if you have things to do as you will not get them done for 17 hours!
