i really wanted to like this book but the development of the characters was just bad by the end of the book i still didnt like bill it seemed like he really only put him self first it just frustrated me it seemed more like a friends with benefit's book than a romance.and it could have used some more action and it would have been nice if they would have givin the reader a chance to solve the mystery instead of just telling you
I don't like vampire books, but when Audible had an offering of "first book in a series" at an incredibly inexpensive price, of course I bit. Sneaky audible books. It's all their fault that I'm now hooked on Sookie Stackhouse vampire mysteries. These books are excellent. I didn't fall asleep at all, which I'm prone to do at times. Now I will have to buy all of the series just to find out what's going on. I highly recommend these books. But warning: be careful when Audible has another offering such as this, you may get hooked too. So enjoy this book, I certainly did. And thanks Audible, keep up the good work.
The book is fun, the narration awesome, but the thing keeping this from being a five star book is the fact that the audiobook skips. Fortunately, it just skips back a few seconds, so you don't lose anything. But it still breaks up the story every time it happens.
If you are looking for a serious vampire story, this is NOT the book (series) for you. I don't think I've ever read a book that grabbed me as fast as this one did. I laughed out loud many times and enjoyed the characters immensely. The characters are all interesting and Sookie is an unusual leading lady. If you hate vampire stories, you might find you like this series anyway. I give this the highest of recommendations.
I loved this audio book. I drove around the block more than once just to get through an engaging chapter. Anyone who loves witches, demons, werewolves, and vampires will drool over this one. Can't wait for the next installment.
Red hat reader
I read this book several years ago and enjoyed the story. I was surprised when I listened to the book. Audible should be proud of this production. Johanna Parker (Narrator) did such a good job with Sookie's Southern accent and all the other voices she used, I felt like I was there. Good job with a funny, quirky story!!!
I love the southern angle of this story and can't wait to read the next one. She is funny, unpredictable, and the twists keep coming. I got a little tired of the uber-gay bad vampires. Still, a fun read.
First off I'd like to admit I'm not really a vampire fan. I am a werewolf fan. And there seems to be that "Pirates vs Ninjas" animosity towards vampire fans and werewolf fans, lol.
Maybe that had something to do with it. But I also love supernatural stories, of any kind.
I was really wanting to read these books, but I never had the time or I would be reading something else. After the television show came out, I became hooked on the first two seasons and upon joining audible I put the series on my wishlist.
I just couldn't get attached to the characters in the story. Bill was uninteresting and fell a little flat for me, he didn't grab me as any sort of hero or irresistible main male lead. And the amount of sex... Scene after scene of over-graphic sex scenes, video taping sex scenes, sex innuendos in flowers, sex on the porch, sex all over the house-I wasn't offended but it just got really old and unnecessary. I was expecting more thriller, more mystery, more supernatural happenings, but what I got was closer to an over-graphic romance novel.
I didn't hate it, and I don't think it's a bad book. It had a good twist at the end, and if I hadn't already watched the show prior to getting this book I totally wouldn't have expected the outcome. I think the narrator did a wonderful job and her accent was just fantastic. But I found myself just waiting for it to be over so I could move on to another book.
Like I said, maybe it's just the fact that I am more of a werewolf fan, but I think if a book is good enough, it should make me want to read more either way. I just can't get myself to continue on with this series.
I absolutely love this series. Entertaining as all get out. I found myself picking up a southern drawl in honor of Ms. Sookie. Just sexy enough to keep it real and listening to every word.
A (much, much worse) knock-off of Twilight, set in the deep South. Truly unlikeable characters, unmotivated and haphazard action, rambling plot. I don't know how a Southern vampire mystery with mind-readers and shape-shifters could be utterly boring, but it managed! And while I'm typically the last person to fast-forward through the juicy stuff, the sex scenes were truly disgusting. You've been warned!
