I gave it two stars only because I did manage to make it to the end (it's only about 9 hours). But I definitely won't be returning to this series. The characters are flat and boring. The *mystery* really was no mystery at all except for how the murderer wasn't detected by the main character from the very beginning. If you are looking for a good fantasy book --- this is not for you.
I was not familiar with the series or author. I scanned the reviews and thought it was horror book about vampires. Half way into the book it turned into a romance book that had vampires. I lost interest. It began, with the development of a great horror/supernatural book, but turned into a standard romance book. Made it 3/4 the way through
I loved this book. It's much better than the television series!!!! After listening to this book, I was very disappointed by the t.v. series for making so many alterations to the story.
I've started listening to this book after watching the premiere of the new television adaptation. There are many similarities adapted from the book. If your like myself and had not heard of this book and your only exposure is the new TV series? I think you'll enjoy the book even more. It is not for the faint of heart and does have some graphic sections. Although nothing compared to the TV show; I'm sorry the writers of the show made it so graphic.
I enjoyed the beginning of this novel with its unique, spunky, funny heroine, but by the middle I lost interest in the characters and setting. Nothing, and I mean nothing, is going on except people gaping after the new weird vampires and having sex.
This is the first time I ever listened to a book before and I have to admit that after listening to the book I found certain things I did not pick up reading the book. The characters really came to life for me. The Sookie Stackhouse Novels are my favorite and I can not wait until May to get the next installment.
