I think audio is so much better than the written book because Susan Ericksen gives Eve's character life that you would never get from just reading.
I have read some of her other books out of order so reading the first book was great. It's so worth starting from the beginning of the series but the books are so good you don't have to sart at the beginning to get the characters.
Who would not fall in love with Rourke!!
These books make me feel like I don't want o stop listening until the end and want to start listening to the next one right away!
Because Susan brings all of the characters to life, there is no comparison, You HAVE to get the audio version!!
I was introduced to this series by a gift offer for Number 13 in the series. I was so intrigued that I went back to the beginning. It is far better to start here and watch the characters grow.
I am not a fan of science fiction or fantasy at all, and was certain I had made a mistake with this book. It is set in 2058 and this is a description of what life could have evolved to without having to suspend disbelief too much. It could be described as a basic detective thiller, but the circumstances and the characters are wonderful. They are complex and interesting, and the romance is quite steamy at times.
Susan is amazing with the American, English, Irish and a host of other accents. I would love to see a video of her performing one of these books because when you are only listening, you are completely involved with the story, and the performance boosts that feeling, not distracts from it, as some performers do.
Yes, I wanted more. I did not want the story to end. I am now an "In Death" junkie.
Take the leap and you will love the rollercoaster!
Audible introduced me to this series (37 novels, 10 novellas & 1 prequel) which is a combination of Detective Story, Romance Novel and SciFi. I found the idea of a female lieutenant in a NYC murder squad who becomes involved with a billionaire while solving a murder very interesting. Let's start by stating if you want to read this for the Sci-Fi you'll be disappointed. Though the series commences in 2058 and there is some good technology utilized, it is not a huge part of the book. In fact the space travel is a little ahead of what I at least believe will be possible in that time frame. J.D. Robb is a pen name of Nora Roberts, a Romance novelist and author of over 300 books. Though there are definite Romance Novel elements to the story, they are sub-plots. This is basically a good detective mystery. The main character Eve Dallas is a homicide Lieutenant. In this novel she investigates the murder of a Senator's daughter, who earned her living as a licensed companion (i.e. prostitute). During the course of her investigation, she is hindered by the involvement of the victim's father & his aide. One of her suspects is Roarke, a mysterious handsome billionaire with a shady past, who of course becomes the love interest in the romance sub-plot. As Lt. Dallas pursues her clues in NYC & Washington, DC and environs, we get to learn a little about her early life that haunts her. We meet some of the charachters that will populate later books in the series and best of all we learn that she is a smart, relentless investigator and dedicated to solving the crime. There are twists and turns during the investigation, but eventually Eve brings justice for the victim & the victim's family. If you find you enjoy the audible book, as I did, and choose to listen onward, you will find the the narrator Susan Ericksen is utilized for the entire series, which makes the entire series than much more enjoyable.
The setting of the time / story
Slow pace and the narrator made it worse
Drove me crazy
I hope book two is better - oh but wait I will never know! Once bitten twice shy.
I read a lot of the reviews and figured this one would be a good story.
The narration was ok but a little too harsh of a voice to really sit back and enjoy.
She didn't do a great job on the different characters.
The romance between Eve and Rourke was so cold. No heat at all. J.D. Robb needs to take lessons from Maya Banks and Nora Roberts.
The murder mystery was just ok. It could have been more gripping through out the book.
The last third of the book was very good with a great ending. I almost quit listening but just figured I had to finish and glad I did.
did not read the print version? I dont understand why this question comes up all the time?
Of course I love Eves HoodRat friend :) She is so colorful and Fun.. Would not have pictured Eve and her friends!
She is awesome as always! I can tell the difference of who is speaking when she reads.
Yes, I could have listened to this book in one sitting... but I like to spread out my audiobooks while I am at work to make the day go by.
I am not a fan of any futuristic books. This one was a surprise I did not know it was set in the future In fact I was confused a few times especially in the very beginning when they called Eve "sir" Im still not clear on that, unless it is a "officer of the Law" thing and not a futuristic thing... either way I had to rewind it to understand who the guy outside the crime scene was talking too.. after I got over a few weird things like that I was fine and let myself get into the book. I wanted to listen to more of the series but couldnt again because of the futuristic-sci-fiction. But Im happy I listened to this it was a good one.
I couldn't even get thought this. I wanted to return it but felt since I'd read half of it I really shouldn't. I know Robb is beloved, but this isn't really one thing or the other. Not science fiction and not really set in the present enough to make Dallas a character like Warshawski.
I am in my late twenties, a commuter, a romantic, & am loving life.
Naked in Death was a really enjoyable book. The author does a nice job introducing you to characters that will be present in the remainder of the series. The 'who-done-it' mystery was pretty shocking... not predictable at all - which I like. And I really liked the leading male character... a very sexy hero for the story.
She does a really great Irish accent.
My husband is in law enforcement - and so I really found the futuristic world of law enforcement to be interesting and believable!
This was my very first audio book. And wow was I shocked! I was worried that I wouldn't be able to get into the stories the same as when I read them. Boym was I wrong. It is awesome! The reading for this audio book was great! I have alrady bought the next several in the series.
Pick a favorite! Are you crazy!!!
No this was the first. Great job!
I have every book in the series in print, kindle, and am now purchaing the audio books. I bought Naked in Death, the first, and still an all time favorite, for a long road trip. So glad I did!
