I have been addidcted and no that isn't too strong a word... to the Outlander series since I discovered it 3 years ago. This latest installment was not disappointing. I loved the historical references and scenarios. Would have liked a bit more Jaime and Claire but loved the other characters too. I was actually happy with the ending as an ending like that can only mean there is more to come!!!
Davina Porter, as always, brings the time and characters to vivid life. Diana Gabaldon told us there would clearly be another sequel, and she didn't lie. The characters are still marvelous, with new texture being added with each book at the same time loose ends seem to be finished off. I am someone who reads the books myself and then listens, still rapt, to Porter's dulcet tones. These books offer the best of several worlds and modes. Hoping the two intervening books finally make it to Audible sooner than later - Susan Dewey
Of course as a BIG fan of Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series I found it a GREAT book. It was wonderful to read about people in the 'past and present', how their life's develop.
The end was a bit disappointed and to abrupt.
I hope the next book will be available very very soon!!!!!????? It's not nice to let your readers dangle like that, for a long period.
Diana, I hope you are busy with the sequel to An Echo in the Bone. I loved this book as much as the first one (and second and third, et al). I love Jaime and Claire going back to Scotland (I haven't finished the book, so I don't know EXACTLY what happens), but their adventures are so much fun to hear about - gray hair and spectacles not withstanding. Don't miss this series - not one of them. Diana Gabaldon - - - I hope you are busy! We're not done with the Fraser's yet!
Where I have always loved this series I believe this to be the best by far. I found it very intriguing, exciting and absolutely moving as well as teaching me more about the American Revolution. DG always leaves us hanging but this one more so than any other. I admittedly have never been over fond of Brianna nor Lord John Grey but both grew in my esteem even though I think Bri still needs a good smack and to be a bit more kind and loving to Roger. (Can we say obsessed fan?) I am still unsure as to how I feel about Lord Grey and Claire. On one hand he was very chivalrous to marry her even though it was more for Jaime than Claire and I can even see them turning to each other for comfort...the once...but no more; so as stated I still wrestle with how I feel about that situation. I think the only disappointment for me was for Young Ian and the fact that there is not more of Jaime but it won't stop me from re-reading the entire series AGAIN nor from waiting with much antsy anticipation for the next but hopefully not last in the series.
As always Davina Porter did her usual excellent work, and thank goodness they have stayed with her as narrator and DG simply outdid herself. Thank you Diana and here's to America and her Freedoms!
This was a very entertaining audiobook with a great narrator; however I do recommend reading the series in order.
Davina Porter's performance of the book enables me to hear the characters in my mind even when I'm not listening to it. While reading the written word is my first love, Davina Porter performed Diana Gabaldon's wonderful book just beautifully. Until listening to Davina Porter, I would've put Jim Dale at the top of the all time best narrators, but in my opinion they share that exalted position.
The Outlander series superb This is the only time travel novel I've read, but she does a wonderful job. Her meticulous investigation of history puts you right there, with all the 18th century's sights, sounds and smells.
A complex story with full bodied characters, I would recommend the while series to men and women alike.
Amazing storyline with excellent narration as well.! I enjoyed every twist and turn and I'm already anxious to see what happens next to the Fraser's and their extended family and friends. When faced with an unpleasant situation, I often think of Claire and Jamie, and find I'm not so bad off.
I'm just starting the final part to this audiobook, and I'm absolutely loving it. It did take a bit to build for me much like the first in the Outlander series, but by now I can barely take time to write this review without longing to hear Davina Porter's fabulous narration of Diana Gabaldon's amazing storylines.
