No. I didn't realize it was going to be a romance novel at its core. I hate romance novels but the story was pretty good if you take that part out. I won't be reading any more books by this author. Oops.
not knowing that this is a series, i listened to Born of Fury first so i can't help but compare. i did enjoy this book but i liked Hauk's story better. this is more predictable and it didn't have that much humor than Born of Fury. although it had a couple of fight scenes, it wasn't as intense. it didn't really put me on the edge of my seat. as for the male and female lead, Nykyrian's past is very dark and sad... not for the weak of heart. for someone who is very skillful and lethal, he also had a lot of self doubt because of his past. as for Kiara, sheltered and loved, she only sees the good in everything and everyone. so IMO, she seemed to always think that she is the one to fix the broken Nykyrian. which in the end, well..... just read or listen to the book. she is not weak by all means, she can be feisty but she can also easily become the victim. fragile i guess is the word i am looking for. overall, it's a good start for this series. still looking forward to the camaraderie, the insults, the puns and the tightnit friendship the Sentella has to offer. as for the narration, it was clear and good. but it didn't really bring the characters to life... sorry, if i didn't get to listen to Fred Berman first, i would have thought it to be great.
I just completed Born of Defiance, and decided to start all over again. So my only issue with this one is the Narrator. It would be GREAT if this one could be re-recorded with Fred Berman. He has been the best narrator for this series. But other than that, I love this series a smidgen more than the Dark Hunter series, which I love as well.
I really didn't like how nykyrian and Korean from DH are too similar and SK reused alot of sayings and quotes from DH or she bored them from this book to DH either way I didn't like that but still loved the story and everything else and I still like SK as an author she still ma fav
I love losing myself in books of any kind
This seemed ALOT like Dark Hunter series. Don't get me wrong I love Sherrilyn Kenyon, but this story was so familiar with Acheron that is was scary... Well all but the Heroine, whom was lovable in Ash's tale.
This book's female heroine was weak, whinny and undeserving. I never warmed up to her or felt she was deserving of such a strong male character like that of Nykyrian. She nev really grows up and repeatedly makes the same naive mistake when it comes to blaming the man she loves as being uncaring despite know first hand about his horrific past. Another reviewer called her TSTL ( too stupid to live) and I would agree.
I would really like to try the next book in the storyline however I just think they're going to align way too much with another series by this author.
loved the story but it need different voices for the male characters, the lady that does it doesnt show how the true hybrid voice was supposed to be
