I really enjoyed listening to this book. The story was great and the narrator is one of my favorites. I will definitely read another book by Adriana Trigiani....and hopefully it will be read by Cassandra Clare!
Sumptuous detailed descriptions
Just love her voice
Lovely story, wonderful details of food, fabric, love and family
The book is mildly entertaining at times, just not enough times. I learned more than I ever wanted to know about custom made shoes. The main character's family is not like any Italian family I know. Their portrayal is almost insulting. The ending just trailed off - nothing resolved. It is a story of a very self absorbed woman. I could not relate to the heroine. I thought it was supposed to be a romance; it is not. It is just a book about how to make shoes.
I tried to enjoy this book, telling myself it will get better; it didn't. It was too long and drawn out. Every little thing was described over and over to the point that it was downright boring. Instead of the main character Valentine being a sympathetic and someone you wanted to see win, she was more of a whining, spoiled, self-centered, little brat. I found myself wanting to yell at her and tell her to grow up. Don't waste time with this book.
I am sorry to be one of those to write a review only 9 hours into a 14 hour book. But I just don't know that I am going to bother finishing it. The whole plot just doesn't seem to have much depth. The family being childish annoying whiners! In my opinion...just because you use a lot of descriptive words does not give a book more character! I would only recommend this for maybe a beach read, something that you just want to fill time, but if you didn't get the whole way through it in a couple sittings, I think you would find that you wouldn't make time to go back to it.
I'm an artist. I have arthritis. I listen to books on tape to forget my aches and pains. Better than drugs! listening also helps me sleep
Some lovesick women
Something with a better story and performance.
I found her accents to be irritating.
Disappointment. I read the critiques and still purchased it.
I really tried to like this book, but had to stop listening before it was finished. I found the narrator's accents irritating, and the story just wasn't interesting enough for me to give up more valuable time to it. I like Trigiani's earlier books, but it just seems like she is trying too hard here.
