I had started out enthusiastic on the storyline a d the lead female character. now I am a combination of. bored and sick of all the beatings. I am quitting at chapter 37 and considering returning this book as it actually borders on sadism masochism and would be better off in that category. and PS I am in no way a prude! I love dragon tattoo etc. . this is now absurd and its too bad as there are other parts that are entertaining and fun
on a totally separate note-- I love the reader . she is great. .
A beautiful story, 2nd in the series. Time travel, romance and history. Beautiful relationships. Excellent
This book as well as the first outlander book are excellent. I'm excited to read the rest of them and really glad there are so many books. I would recommend it to anyone who loves adventure, and romance. The books have a good pace, sense of plot and pretty much non stop action as well as great language. I would also say the narration is very good. Davina porter does a great job of voices and general story telling. There are a lot of sex scenes though! Not for children. Enjoy!
Less background noise than book one, although there is still clearly a delayed echo throughout entire book. More noticeable when wearing headphones.
I also noticed a couple words that were cut off, probably in editing, and I wasn't sure if I was missing pieces of the narrative or not. Chapters ending and then cutting out to complete silence also threw me off. Two chapters near the end of the book were clumped together in one audio chapter, but not a big deal.
As to the actual book, I wasn't disappointed. The twenty year fast-forward had me freaked out a bit in the beginning but it all came together well. DG's writing is descriptive and flows naturally, and DP's narrative brings life to the characters making it a well rounded experience. (Her American accent can use some work, but otherwise she's wonderful!)
#TakeMeAway ~ Love to be swept away by a great story and narrator!
I really enjoyed the second book in the Outlander series and will eventually listen to them all (and watch the series). However, because these books are so long, I will not listen to them back to back but they are a refreshing change from what I normally listened to.
Love, sacrifice, boundless
Previous books in the series.
She's great at changing her voice for the different characters!
I like Jaimie.
I like Claire!
I missed this book the first time I read the series. I skipped it because it was not available at the library when I finished Outlander. Much of the story is revisited in later books and I was able to pick up the thread easily. That, however, was no substitute for hearing it read with all the details. So glad I was able to enjoy this as I went about otherwise boring household chores. Davina Porter simply brings the story alive!
50 something female, not a bibliophile by any stretch of the imagination. Don't have time to sit. I love history and biographies.
I've enjoyed the story. I've now listened to the 1st and 2nd books in the series. The characters are well developed. Sometimes the thick, rich descriptions of irrelevant points makes me impatient. Porter's narration is outstanding.
