The Scottish accent and the beautiful commitment of Jamie and Claire in their love.
Claire had so much to cope with and decisions of "right" and "wrong" with a history she knew.
The lovely Scottish chat. Read the first in the series but LIVED the audio book.
Jamie with the duty and commitment which made the most of the disasters and brought to life history.
Not sure I will enjoy the rest of the series without getting it in audio.
I love both ways, when Iam very busy like sewing or whatever the Audio version is fabulous. When I am able to sit and enjoy the experience of reading then the print version is for me. and the ability to switch back and forth between the two is just the best thing ever!!
all of it
Outlander, she is wonderful she has the perfect inflections in her voice to be so realistic as if she were there
one of the best
my second time listening & once manual read when it first came out I LOVE THIS SERIES ANY MORE MS. GABALDON?
There is nothing better than a picture painted with words to stir the imagination to feel, see, long for and even smell when done well!
I was enamored by the depth of love between two people. Can love really span time? Does it really know no bounds of spacial realm? Could there ever be a love out there like Jamie Fraser for me? Gosh I sure hope so! Every woman secretly wants to be loved so much as the way Diana Gabaldon describes Jamie's love and desire for Claire. Likewise, Claire's willingness to love back, so much as to search across continents and time for Jamie. It is truly a love story all tangled up in history and travel as well as another bit of love story seemingly starting that was captivating from the very start.
Surprisingly Roger was one of my favorite characters in this book... every time we strayed away from him, I found myself wanting to go back to him, to learn more, to get to know him better. I found myself wanting to sit down and interview him. To ask more questions of him, to know more of what he was doing, to know more of what was going on with him. I was interested in him more than I should have been from the start even though he was a more minor character. Something about the richness of description of environment sometimes makes Ms. Gabaldon's surroundings seem to come to life, so much so that I almost smell the smell. When there was discussion about tea cakes or something coming out of the oven, I had a buzzer go off in the kitchen and just cackled that it was my own baking I was smelling instead of those in the book!
I think Jamie in the middle of the Brothel with a very large sausage. How very funny. I still laugh to think of the picture. The book brings so much to visual life. It puts into my memory things which I have never lived through in reality, but believe me, I have been there thanks to some mighty fine writing.
Blood of my Blood and Bone of my Bone...so long as we both shall live...longer than that.
Diana Gabaldon and Davina Porter rock as a team. They bring the goods that keep me wanting more and I find myself thinking about the characters long after I am done with these books and moved on to other books. That is some delicious story telling.
I have listened to the whole series several times and recommend them to everyone.
Davina Porter is one of my favorite narrators her voice rich and relaxing.
Yes, I have listened to it twice - I love the story, Diana Gabaldon is a master story teller.
Davian Porter is the best! She really brings the story to life.
Get the entire series you will not be dissapointed
For Book 2 in the Outlander series the following performance of Dragonfly in Amber is excellent. What I enjoyed the most is the expansion that it made on the simple love story in Book 1. The realistic, yet exciting story line is a perfect blend of history and fiction. It plays history without the boring lecture room feel. Excellent, excellent, excellent!
Although you have to love Claire and Jamie, I thoroughly enjoyed the part of Master Raymond. It added an insight into Claire that fit well with the story.
At the start of the story when Claire, Brianna, and Rodger visit the old church and find Jamie's grave. It spurs questions that make the book worth reading. That single visit spurs the whole story in my opinion.
Definitely Master Raymond. Bits of his advice or influence on Claire resonate throughout the whole book.
You will want to make it through this whole book. In all honesty, there are parts that are hard to get through if you don't enjoy the details of history, but they are so important to the story itis worth the listen. The narrator is wonderful as well and it helps that the series keeps her for all of the books. Can't wait to review book 3!
Audible addicted love mystery, lately stuck on love story. Mother of 1 Labrador and 1 perfect man. Work way too hard, and so ready to be retired
This chapter in the book is really making me quite upset I must admit. It was bad enough letting us know Jack Randall rape Jamie but to keep reliving it without him getting revenge is hard to take I do not believe I will continue with the series because of this and Claire asking for his life to be spared Omg really this angry me to no end than now for her to meet with him and to listen to him tell her how he had her husband and some sick bond he think he has a right too all of this sicken me if this do not end with Jack being torn to piece I will not continue with this series.i had to write this review because if male rape or and kind of rape sicken you I thought it should be said that image isn't something I like to have in my head. For me Jamie is my favorite character so I do not like they have him weak when he is the strongest person in the book so far.
The serch for Jullian in 1968.
Davina Porter various voice narations, brings this story to life; from Claire, the men, to old folks, children, her voice adaptions make listening to story so enjoyable.
This story is a bit slow as a bridge to the next book, but the books are a classic that everyone should experience.
Absolutely. Because it is one of the best - well written - on the edge of your seat full of true human emotions books I have read in a very long time!
I do not often give 5 stars across the board - but in this case - author, narrator & story line have well earned it!
it is real, as though the story of a friend, not a written novel.
Everything. Listening to her is a joy. One thing I truly love - her voice is so calm & factual I have spent many nights listening to it through the bedroom while my 2 yr old grandson sleeps next to me. He finds her voice relaxing also apparently. Yet none of the mystery or urgency of the book is lost.
Again I laughed, cried, got angry, had tense moments. Once more the story was as real as life.
I am having trouble waiting for my next membership click to move on to book 3..........My budget says I must wait, but it is not an easy task!
