This is the first book of this series that I have "read" as well as the first book from this author. What an enjoyable book. The heroine is bratty, smart-mouthed and independent and the character development is wonderful. It is not your normal Vampire story and is such a wonderful change from the serious "OH NO, I AM A VAMPIRE" stories. The narrator does a great job and you feel she is really Betsy. I can't wait to continue all the books in this series.
If you are looking for a serious vampire story, this is not it. But if you enjoy humor, wittiness and fun with vampire fiction, you will be sorry you missed this one.
I liked the story. I liked the majority of the characters. That's not to say I didn't not like the main character. But she is young and newly undead. With that said, she made it hard to enjoy the storyline with her constant babble, unwillingness to understand her new circumstances, and having to have everything her way. As a teenager, alright; as a new vampire, um, not so much. If I continue this series, it will be to see if she ever learns to shut up and listen and stop making you wish someone would take her head if only to make her be quiet. The narrator was great.
I love to read, but I am time-limited. Audible allows me to keep up with all my favorite authors while on the hiking trail. Thanks, Audible!
MaryJanice Davidson is fantastic. Her stories are witty and well-constructed, and she has created a wonderful protagonist. Betsy is superbly shallow. This series is a convergence of Sex in the City, the Shopaholic novel series, and paranormal/urban fantasy. Enjoy it. I know I did :)
Reminiscent of Buffy the vampire slayer and Angle, good light hearted fun. Sarcastic characters balanced with some serious characters and pretty good plot. I guess that's why I wasn't disappointed by lack of maturity and substance like some reviewers who may have been in the mood for a more serious or drama like an Anne Rice kind of book. Nancy Wu delivers a great valley girl narration without overdoing it for the main character. Only one or two of the male characters voices were a little annoying but I liked most of male and female character voices she gave them. I agree that this book isn't a deep drama or for kids but I found it funny and entertaining and will be getting the next in the series.
Great narrator for me! I really got into to it and really felt that Nancy Wu 'was' Betsy. I loved Betsy's smart mouth, attitude and sassiness. Great cheeky dialouge,(loved it), with lots of giggles. I really enjoyed this and I'm looking forward to Book 2 (which I will be starting tonight). Enjoyable fun light story line - exactly what I was looking for.
If you like smart and sassy heroines, cheeky dialouge with witty comebacks and a smart but easy to follow plot line then you should have a listen. The production of the audio is very good as well - Nancy Wu's voice is crisp and I personally LOVED her reading.
I loved this series. I was looking for something fun to listen to and this book made me laugh and was very hard to stop listening to. Even for someone like me that is into more serious vampire books, it was a refreshing and different view. A great listen.
What a fun start to this vampire series. While there is a bit of drama in this one, it's really more of a comedy and a light read. It's fun and entertaining chick lit.
Betsy is certainly not your typical vampire and she wants to live her death the same way she lived her life. She finds this hard to do since has "special" qualities that set her apart from all the other vampires. This gets her noticed fast and is the basis for the series. Her sarcasim and humor make this a hillarious read.
Her living friends Jessica and Mark are a great addition and kind balance Betsy out...and Eric Sinclair, her vapiric interest is quite intriging. Sinclair is a bit sarcastic as well and the banter between he and Betsy adds to the fun.
Nancy Wu does a great job as narrator, particularly with giving Betsy a voice. I will definetly pick up the next installment in this series.
This book was entertaining from begining to end. The story moved on at a good pace without getting predictable. I will definitely be getting all the other books from this series.
Deliciously naughty and funny. Can't wait to listen to additional downloads in this series. Makes me want to join the undead, but only on Betsy's terms.
