I am a big fan of Crichton's earlier work, but I was very disappointed in this one. The stories were disjointed and often had no real connection with each other, and it all lead to a climax that was very difficult to believe. It wasn't terribly engaging, though some of the subject material was interesting.
Overall, I wish I hadn't listened to this book...
Author must hate doctors. All the doctors portrayed thus far are either greedy or corrupt. The story is disjointed and jumps around quite a bit with quite a number of characters that it's difficult to keep them all straight. The storyline is also very slow so it's a bit tedious. I won't be finishing the book. Would I have to buy again, I wouldn't. I've enjoyed some of his other books, even the "Timline" which supposedly bombed. But not this in the least bit.
Thge least enjoyable of his books. could not stand to listen to the entire tape. Hopefully, will do better on next book.
I was very disappointed by this book. It lacks any credulity whatsoever even considering the scince fiction genre. I felt it did not flow well and it would seem Mr. Critchton is a bit off his game with this one. I stopped listening after just a few CDs and will throw the rest away.
I've been a devoted Crichton fan since the late seventies but, unfortunately, the Crichton of late seems to have lost his knack for story-telling.
I kept holding out hope the story would turn around and listened to the end to no avail.
I guess I'll wait on some reviews before jumping at his next novel.
Too bad... Could have been one of the greats...
Save your credit! I am a Michael Crichton fan, so I bought it in spite of the overwhelming number of negative reviews. I should have paid heed.
This is the single most disappointing book by Crichton that I have read or listened to. It seemed very random, like he wrote without ever turning back to see what had already been written. Not much plot, just a lot of personal opinion.
Hmmmm, how long would it take for an infinite number of transgenic monkeys to come up with something better?
Next isn't worth the attempt, money, or time.
What is wrong with the book: horrible reader, no action, pathetic plot development, disjointed writing, obnoxious overuse of the F-word, and a dull read.
Just my speed. Before this, I didn't even know I needed to catch up on what's happening in genetic research. I appreciate the author's effort to make this complex subject more understandable to average people like myself. I'm sure he stepped on moneyed toes with this book. Good for him.
How is this the #1 book on audible? Usually that is the best stat I can go with. I could not even finish this book.
I tried to look past the technical aspects with the beginning legal stuff, but could not get by the description of the "jury gasping" during trial and then finding out about the "judges ruling" deciding who won the case, huh?
This books is organized as a series of short stories intertwined into a longer text. Actually, there is no purpose for so many short stories – the story as a whole does not add up to a great, ingenious plot. There are a few witty parts but mostly a series of dull catastrophic/futuristic narratives. Cant say I enjoyed listening to it as I did the other books of this great author.
