Execution and reliance on sexual situations over actual plot.
Good setting and somewhat clever recycling of fish out of water/time travel stories.
Be prepared for an abundance of racy scenes that often do little to promote the story.
The plot seems to be there only as a weak support to the sexual scenes - which are non-stop. So, if you want to read about other people having sex, then this book is for you. I'd prefer to actually participate in it rather than read about a fictional character's love life. Don't get me wrong - I have no problem with a little spice in a novel - but the word 'spice' is the key. Spice is supposed to add to or enhance the flavor of something - not take over the entire flavor. This story's concept has so many avenues that could have been explored, but weren't......If Claire isn't having sex - then she is trying to get out of a rape scene - only to jump back into the arms of her new husband to have sex - only to wander off the next day to almost get raped again - to jump back into her husbands arms for another roll in the hay. Gee - I should have put a spoiler alert at the beginning of this - I think I just gave away the entire plot.....
Anyway - if you are having trouble in the bedroom and need something to spark the fire - then I highly recommend this book. If you are looking for any kind of plot or depth - you will be highly disappointed.
The book portrayed homosexuals as either sadistic rapists or pedophiles. Domestic violence against women and children was condoned, and the book needed to be edited for length.
No. Her deep post-menopausal voice worked well for the characters that were men, but was poorly suited to the young girl in her 20's who is the main character of this book.
The book has wonderful historical descriptions.
The recording was terrible. The booth that it was recorded in was clearly not sound proof, and during long pauses you can hear the reading of another book in the background.
I have no idea how anyone could like this book as much as they report to.
Remove the abuse. Make Clair's emotional reactions more believable. GET TO THE POINT.
I haven't but her reading is quite good, I had no issues with the narration.
I liked the idea behind it... the time travel and the rugged men in kilts, but after the 'marriage' this book took a horrible turn for the worst in my mind.
I found this to be really quite offensive. The romance is abusive at best. Clair is all over the damn place with her reactions to things; and RAPE IS NOT SEXY.
No. Altho I really like the story itself I just couldn't get past the narrator sounding like Mary Poppins. Her male voices all sounded the same. It detracted from the story.
I'll be asking Audible for a refund on this book.
An unashamed Audiophile who has his own studio and business called iZENEARS which brings Australian travel and history to life for locals and visitor's alike.
Other listeners have raved about Outlander and I sort of get why that might be for the story structure is good and the Gaelic imagery excellent. However, there is little or no benefit in it being about time travel for this is where the imagery fails. If one was to time travel all of a sudden without knowledge or preparation there would be so much more going on regarding the challenge of the effect upon time and place. Our heroin is just too 'accepting' of the situation for the tale to work for me. It set up an expectation for me that was not fulfilled
When Jamie explained the proper way to lie with a woman
when Jamie rescued Claire when she was being tried as a witch
Sorry to say but "no". Her style is more focus on the romantic/sex aspect rather than on the possibilities her plot actually gives her the possibilities to explore.
Her devotion to the loves story. She might as well write about a woman that meets another man on a vacation. The time travel aspect is almost irrelevant to the story.
She has a good ability to create voices for different persons in the book.
Disappointment, I didn't expect a love story.
SLOW STORYLINE. MULTIPLE LONG SEX SCENES AND REPETITIVE CONVERSATIONS LINKED OCCASIONALLY BY ACTION
IT SHOULD BE CUT DOWN BY 80% SEX SCENES AND REPETITIVE CONVERSATIONS TO 13 HOURS INSTEAD OF 32 HOURS.
Flimsy story surrounded by lots of light porn ala 50 Shades but Highlander costume drama instead.
most likely, yes
Not for me
Terrible writing. Cannot imagine this was a bestseller
