This book was recommended to me. This book was ok, and overall it has potential. The parts that really bothered me were how the women are treated by the men. I suppose in that era that was acceptable. I almost shut the book off several times. I wanted to give it a chance but I am not a fan of rape and overall violence that this book has. If you can over look that then I think you would enjoy the book. To me love stories shouldn’t be where the woman is degraded and I don’t know why there are so many so called love stories that have that in them. Do us women want that in our relationships or in our fantasies? I don’t think so.
I am a 50 year old Grandmother of 12. I am also a bibliophage, in that I devour books and cannot go anywhere without a couple at least.
I Love both but the audio version lets me enjoy the story while doing other things, like dishes, cooking,or even on a long drive.
Has to be James Fraser. He is funny, strong, has an air of innocence, and a youthful zest for life.
She gives each Character a fuller dose of personality than they had in print.
Oh yes! If only there were that many hours in a day.
So glad that I can listen to these on my Android as I have it linked through bluetooth straight into the interior set of speakers in my hearing aids. I can't do that with my kindle.
Glad to be part of the audible community and I hope that my reviews help to choose the right book and share my love of reading.
SEX, you guessed it, if you have read all the other reviews. The story is exquisite, the narration is OK, but the SEX.. I am a woman, and I assure you - none of my friends fantasize about garbage like this, I mean about the boring sex scenes, very repetitive and well, boring... Historically speaking the book is well done. Of course... one wants to read the next book. However, what bothers me most... there is not enough of questioning from the husband to the wife - when she tells him, she is a time traveler. Are you kidding she comes from the future, knows about electricity, running water, birth control, food, the Holocaust - and NEVER NEVER NEVER mentions this to him... ah not to realistic, this would have been so much better had the author developed a bit more from the future into the daily happenings of the past.
And please, Miss Diana, none of us women want that kind of sex or that much of sex, especially if the main hero isn't that clean or lovely smelling to begin with....
Would I recommend this.. YES, if you are willing to listen to Miss Diana's sexual fantasies, a bit repetitive, boring, and historically the story is fine....
so.. yes get it - but be warned.. a bit mushy even for females...
Ugh. "Bodice-Ripper" is an apt description. There are parts of the story I'm interested in, like does she ever make it back to her time, and, is there an explanation of the time travel, but I won't ever find out unless someone else fills me in. After 12 hours of Harlequin-style "romance", I am DONE.
Good narrator, though.
I wasn't sure about this but the reviews were good enough that I gave it a shot. Wow! I'm so glad I did.I read it and gave it to my adult daughter who is staying up waaay too late to read it. Action, adventure, suspense, romance, and a gifted narrator. Oh, and you'll fall in love with Jamie.
I picked this book because of all the great reviews. I was not disappointed. It took almost a whole part to get into it, but after that I really loved the main characters and the storyline. Some of the chapters ran on and on,and I found myself thinking of other things while listening, but never really lost my place so on the whole, I absolutely loved the story. I can't wait to read the next book. I loved the accents and the narrator did a very good job. To me, this is a romance novel, so if you're not into romance novels, you may not like this. All in all a very good read. I highly recommend it.
It is a rich, funny and romantic story. I did enjoyed it very much. It is a little bit like Gong with the Wind to me. Both have war background and involve hips of details. Sometimes, I feel the story is a bit too long. That is the only shortcoming of this book to me.
Very bad book, I hate the fact that I downloaded this audio based on good reviews, if the book is bad then please state the facts please say it's horrible especially this one
I am usually kind of a literary snob, and I would probably be embarrassed to be caught listening to this book, but I really liked it a lot. Sometimes I lose my place and go back too far, and with this book I didn't mind listening to the same passages again. It's a good story, plainly. I am sure the blended old and new language and the historical portrayals and accents would be laughed out of the room by other snobs, but this audio book was so entertaining!
The sex that some reviewers are complaining about is the easiest thing to defend about the book. Sex is such an important part of life; why shouldn't it be included in our stories? I didn't think it was too graphic and I found it pretty fresh and real, although I (unfortunately) don't "read" a lot of books that deal with this part of life.
The end is clearly not the end, and I am going to buy the next installment. (I may hide the title while listening to it...)
