I enjoyed learning of life in 1740's Scotland and loved the excellent narration. For me, it was frequently boring and would have been better if shortened. Also, way too many sexual details. Good literature doesn't need a crutch.
Yes, I could hardly wait for it to end so I could listen to something better.
No, too long.
I kept thinking it would get better because of the good reviews, but it never did for me. I've learned that a good book trumps good narration.
I have read Outlander many times but listening to it has brought it to a brand new level.
Jaime was my favorite character.
She brings a whole new dimention to the story and characters.
It was hard putting it down.
Awesome listen. Highly recommend it!
Yes! To enjoy an excellent read.
None other that I have read.
Diana weaves an extraordinary tale!
This is not sci-fi. This is a completely quiche romance novel. Strong modern women trapped in old times ... strong primative man ... forced to wear amazing dress ... bad guys threatening rape ... rescue ... surrender ... etc. Its so weird that romance writers can only write one plot and weirder still that anyone would voluntarily read such drivel.
Davina Porter was excellent as a reader and I would definitely listen to this one again. She helped the words come alive with a perfect accent. I read this book years ago and found it more pleasurable to listen to it.
My absolute favorite book of all time. Would recommend to anyone.
I like historical, southern books - southern accents, antiques - The Ole' West, Ghost Towns, Victorian Era, Southern Humor!!
Listen to Outlander! AND, you will get the bonus of watching it on TV too! The saga of Claire and Jamie, goes on and on ......... wonderful story. Claire goes back in time from 1940's to the 1700's in Scotland. The television series is very true to the book & it's great to see the characters and give them a face.
Yes, plan on repeating the complete series. I often re-read multiple book series because sometimes you miss key events, or don't understand their significance until several books into the story. If its really good, as Outlander is, I will go straight back to book one upon completing the final in a series.
So far its Jamie, though his sister has great appeal. I look forward to seeing what both of them get up to in later chapters.
Haven't quite finished so I'll wait on this question. Took a break to download the rest of the books. I like it that much.
Right before Jamie was caught. I enjoy the banter between Jamie and his sister. Claire feels at that moment that she is truly part of the family and sees how much that means to her.
Davina Porter is the perfect narrator for this series. A narrator can make or break an audiobook in my opinion. A good narration takes me away in the story, not giving thought whether its a male or female voice. You get the feeling that whatever character is speaking, the focus is on them in the moment and it feels like a movie in my head. i can fully visualize their appearance and demeanor, just with a good voice narration. Davina Porter can do this with such skill as to make every character emerge in full color.
A different narrator.
All of them! The story moved VERY slow. I excruciatingly listened to 5th chapter -- but I give up -- no can do. I will be returning this one -- first time I've ever done this!
The writer and reader have both outdone themselves. I found myself sorry to have to "put it down" and spent every possible moment back at my computer taking in more. The book captivated me, kept me, entertained me and I could not resist one moment of the story.
What a great story of historical fiction, with great characters, the reader draws you in to the story - I can't believe there are 8 books to this fantastic series.
The characters are well-developed and the writing creates a wonderful intensity as you follow these characters through their adventures - the reader does a great job with both female and male characters.
She does a fantastic job providing a voice to both male and female characters - she brings the story alive.
The series has been made into a television series - "Time Travel at its best"!
Can't wait to listen to the other books in the series.
