Yes, but with the caveat that it's really a romance novel.
There were a lot of memorable moments since the protagonists are constantly in peril. I found myself often disgusted with Claire because of her pig-headedness and unwillingness to take the advice of people who are sincerely trying to keep her safe. I felt like her sense of values were too modern for WWII era nurse.
Excellent character differentiation in voice and accent
No, it was definitely entertaining, but also very cheesy.
Great story, if a bit slow at some points.
I'm assuming the Duke has some sort of purpose in the next novels other than to get Jamie out of the castle so Claire could get into more trouble on her own.
Starting around Chapter 31, I noticed a slight murmuring sound behind the narrator's voice. I couldn't tell if it was an echo or people talking in the background. Not a huge issue, but distracting nonetheless.
Well told story that wouldn't have had many complications if Claire had simply done as Jamie said.
If I listen to the next book, it will be largely due to Davina Porter's superb performance.
I rank it very high and it would have been a 5 star except for some of the demented actions of the main villain. He could have been just as evil without some of the vile actions near the end of the book.
It rivals Pride and Prejudice for me even though the two books are so different.
H-m-m-mm...I liked so much of the book - to pinpoint a particular moment is hard. The Gathering chapter with the injured man - Dougal and Claire's interaction with him. Gruff men have more depth than we tend to realize. :)
I enjoyed the love story and the intrigue...perfect blend.
I'm moving onto Book 2, BUT if it has some of the same demented unnecessary evil and vile actions - I don't know that I'll continue the series.
Certainly one for the ladies, more of a love story than just a story. Well performed, and just enough to keep me going. I have seen someone on Audible claim they would like to see rating split into categories, YA, male, female ect, and for these kind of books it would help. I did know that most reviewers where female, but took a punt anyhow. Just love the longer books
Addictive & detailed. It's very clear Diana Gabaldon researched extensively. The reader's contribution is exact to the era as it transitions across the centuries.
Having the female & male tones along with deviants brought about from sexual to evil intentions are easily achieved in a conformal matter.
Enjoying it immensely.
enjoyed but the story could have been shortee had it not been so repetitive.
narration was very good .
I didnt like th at the ending felt like it just cut off .... I was expecting a bit more to happen
, guess ill find out ? in the next book.
I've "read" this series of books. This series is a must read/listen to if you haven't already! ) Listening to them is wonderful! I love the narrator. I love being able to but put a sleep timer on. Back to the book. I love this book. I have fallen in love with it all over again. Thank you Audible for bringing new life to a book I love. I'm off to book 2 in the series now. I'm so happy it's the same person, Davina Porter, reading the book. She does an excellent job! As for Jamie and Claire, I can't wait to see what happens next. Such a wonderful love woven into a historical novel. Diana Gabaldon is a brilliant writer. I love learning about the past. And she takes us there with the help of Scottish outlaw, a sassanach lady suspected of being a spy, the Clan McKenzie, and more!
This is a great story and takes you away from reality into the lives of the characters and how they would have lived in that time.
When Jamie saves her from Captain Randell and then in turn when Clare saves him from captain Randell and at the monastery when Jamie opens up to Clare about what happened to him.
Davina brings it to life, absolutely amazing.
There is already a series. Outlander
I Have just ordered the 2nd book in the series and added the rest to my wish list. This is one series I would like to hear to the end.
It's an understatement to say that I really enjoyed this book. I loved it! I love the writing, I loved the storyline, I loved the characters, but what I loved most about the book was that it exceeded my expectations and that it was more than just a romance novel.
