I first read this book about 10 years ago. Once I started I could not put it down. Now every time a new book is to come out I start reading them all over again starting at the very beginning. If you love history you will love this series. If you enjoy time travel this is the series for you. If you just love good reading this is the one to read. You fall in love with Jamie and Claire and get transported right along with them.
The historical aspect of the story and the character development.
The whole thing I love it so much I can't pick just one.
I cry everytime I read them.
I am a working mom who loves to squeeze in listening to books while walking, doing chores or commuting.
Unfortunately, I purchased more in the series before I read the first book. I had credits that needed used up. But the answer is, "No' I would not purchase again."
She has a nice voice and did a pretty nice job of switching back and forth between the dialects.
No, I am sorry to say. I hated all of the corny love scenes. I enjoy historical fiction, but all of the ridiculous romance was too much.
Don't waste your money or credits.
My best friend sent me text messages every few months telling me to start reading this series. I have a very busy life with no time for anything let alone one of my favorite pastimes, reading. So, I joined Audible JUST to start this series. Anyway, it was everything she claimed and more. I found myself in love with Jamie (sorry to my husband) and associating with Clair as I have similar spunk and spirit. What I did not like, however, were the details of the torture. I could have done without that-- it was very hard to take even though I know it's only a book. I found myself fast forwarding through those parts because after the first few situations it was just too much. Davina Porter is stellar. Seriously amazing... WOW.
Tell you about myself? Well I am a book lover, of course, my husband says I have a book addiction :) it might be true...
Brilliant, Funny, Beautiful
Claire and Jaime's Wedding Ceremony
My Favorite scene will always be when Claire realizes she does love Jamie and Cant leave him
Of Course! But its very long and if you dont take breaks you wouldnt get anything done.
I also own this book and the rest of this series and it is my favorite set of books. Diana Gabaldon's Story telling style is epic and Davina Porter tells it with such passion and so many different voices I never would have know that she was only one person!
Gabaldon is the writes with such detail and imagery that I often here the voices of the characters in the back of my head for days after finishing a book. When I finish reading or listening the entire series (again) I am always at a loss trying to find someone who writes as well.
She does an amazing job making each character sound so unique.
I have laughed and cried throughout the books.
There are very few books I opt to read more than once, but I have listened to this one several times. It is one of those books I didn't want to put down - it is one of my all time favorites and definitely my favorite in the Outlander series. Davina Porter is an outstanding narrator and I have actually gone looking for other books she narrates because she is so enjoyable.
If you like historical romance, I would definitely recommend it. As the series has continued, although Galbaldon has included romantic themes, I have found that the adventure and historical details have taken over more. So if you are looking for a historical fiction series to get into, I would recommend it as well. There is a bit of time travel involved, but it doesn't go anywhere near being a fantasy book - it is just a premise and makes the heroine & her interactions with everyone else interesting.
I introduced my sister to the series and she is as addicted as I am (and she is a tough sell on any book). I don't want to spoil anything, but I will say that she took issue with some of the more violent/mature content involving black Jack Randall. So be aware of that if you tend to like happy go lucky books.
Ohh Davina's narration is PERFECT! Her portrayal of each character and the lovely accent in which she talks is amazing.
Davina brings the story to life! It's so wonderful to hear the characters instead of just picturing them in my head.
I am SO addicted to this story. I have fallen in love with Claire and Jamie. Diana is an amazing writer bringing such feeling into the words. She paints such a vivid picture with her words and Davina captures the most perfect narrative of one of my favorite novels.
Love, love, love!!!
Yes. If you love historical romance you will love this series. The narrator did a fantastic job.
Jamie Frazer of course. I loved everything about him.
I really don't have a favorite, there are to many.
I have read this series two other times but thought I would try the audible. I really enjoyed it and looking forward to book 2.
