Yup! Well written, with entertaining narration, made the lengthy novel quite pleasurable.
Davina Porter’s performance was nothing less of exceptional. She brought wit and life to the characters with outstanding finesse.
I really enjoyed this book but was upset by some of the content, so I would not recommend to a friend.
I wish that books would have a content advisory on them. I read reviews but wasnt prepared for the torture, which was sick and bestial in the extreme, and it was almost at the end of the book so I was unprepared. To me it spoiled a wonderful story that had been quite romantic.
II purchased this book as I like historical novels.
Overall this is well written and the narration is good.
To my disappointment, however, it has too many unnecessary violence and rape scenes. I nearly stopped listening because of it.
Something for everyone. This is NOT a romance novel; it's an adventure worth taking!
There were far too many to recount.
Again, I can't pick a single scene.
I started reading this series in the 90s after my mother-in-law introduced me. She read romance novels and I'm not a fan of romance novels, so I was skeptical. Wow! What a surprise. This is NOT just a romance; it's an adventure worth taking! Now, more than a decade later, I'm anxiously awaiting the release of the next book. Write faster, Diana! It's so cruel to leave us hanging like this!Diana is so gifted. I loved the books so much that I got every one on audio so I can relive the adventure with my "friends" Jamie and Claire. The books are long and they used to take me months to finish when my children were young, but I looked forward every night to visiting with my "friends" and hearing what was happening in their lives. Excellent character development, excellent historical information and some herbal medicine in there as well! I can't say enough about the series and the talent of its author.
YES, YES, YES! Outlander was very true to the reviews. I mean it was seduce, historical, funny, kept you wanting more and praying that it wouldnt end. I fell in love with the characters especially Jamie. It eas a world of its own. It made you want to know more about that time period, made you wonder what if such things as time travel can exsist and what would happen to a person and the fate of those around them if it were true.
Well, the author asked questions and made sure we had the answers. It did not leave things open and made you feel incomplete. If i never read the next book in the series I am comforted to know that this first installment encompassed so much of the characters lives that I can probably work out what happens next. In Fact it was written so well i really do not feel the need to read the next one.....but I will!!! :-)
Davina, brings to life each character and each character wants and feels and thoughts. Even though some of the Scottish accents were almost the same and i had to retrace what character was saying what, for the most part she did a good job at making them distinguishable. I must say she is Claire for me ( even though claire can be annoying) and i cant imagine another's voice in her place. She also did a good job of making Jamie so touchable, yet so illusive my heart ached for I felt he was real.
Overall She did a wonderful job and she will be plesant to listen too!
No and Yes. No because sometimes i was afraid of what happened next and was so anxious about the situtations the characters had gotten themselves into. And Yes because it was soooo sweet and anticipating. It was
But this book it is a must!!!
The narrator is outstanding! I love all of the books in this series.
Her ability to do different voices, accents, emotions and bringing across the true feeling of the characters.
You should listen to all of the books in this series. They are all wonderful in their own way :)
Tell us about yourself!
I am currently listening to the Outlander Series for the second time.
Davina Porter's voice brings the characters to life in such a way that they are living and breathing during the time I listen to her reading the series.
all the scenes where Jamie is so gentle and Claire is herself (pig headed!)
Wonderfully written and beautifuly brought to life by the narrator!
Yes, I would listen to this story again. I have read the book multiple times. The author is my favorite. The narrator did a great job and is pleasant to listen to.
The elaborate descriptions.
Clair chooses to stay in the past.
Jamie saving Clair. Clair saving Jamie.
Read it! (or listen to it:)
NOT EXACTLYI absolutely loved the book. I loved it so much, I went out and bought the other 6 when I finished the first one. So I was excited to listen to the audiobook. I was very disappointed in the narrator. I honestly felt like I was listening to Claire's mother (or grandmother), not a 27 year old, feisty female lead. The narrator ruined the story for me.
Recast the narrator. I don't want to feel like I'm listening to an elderly woman talk about making passionate love to her husband when she is supposed to be 27!!! How did this woman get the job to narrate this awesome book???I also felt that the other characters she had to "read" were poorly done. She made Jamie sound old and decrepit. She made Jenny sound like a flighty, nervous girl—when she is EXACTLY the opposite. The narrator just did a HORRIBLE job overall. A good narrator engrosses you in the characters, making you forget that you are listening to one person read the parts of many. An excellent example of this is Humphrey Bower who reads the Bryce Courtenay books. He's amazing. When he reads the female roles, I'm so involved in the story that I forget it's a man reading a woman's part. It's just a shame that talent like that couldn't be procured for the Outlander books.
There is nothing wrong with the story and the romance between the two characters is wonderful. But the audio performance is horrible.
Buy and read the book, skip the audiobook. I want to give it more stars cause the story is so good but the narrator was sooooo bad, that I can't.
There is not much history in this historical fiction. Rather it is a very extended female erotic fantasy. The author creates a relationship between a modern professional woman and a younger bulking Scottish chieftain warrior from the 18th century, fulfilling modern feminist domination visions.
