"Would you give up your vengeance against someone you hate if it meant
saving someone you love?"
This book is incredibly interesting and thought-provoking. Not only is it a
good story with compelling characters and a plot that draws you in, but also
it takes on some complex issues without getting boring or judgmental.
Through this fictional story, Picoult manages to talk about religion from a
variety of perspectives without showing bias or personal preference. She
brings up some things that make you think and question, while still
managing to respect each individual viewpoint. I think that can be a very difficult thing to do.
But the novel isn't solely about religion. It's
also about family relationships, and how far any one person can go to protect someone they love.
If you like Picoult's books, then I recommend Vanishing Acts. While I really enjoyed Change of Heart, Vanishing Acts is still my favorite.
I am a huge Jodi Picoult fan. I think she does a superb job of tackling issues and making you think, all the while keeping it entertaining reading. This is my favorite book of hers, by far. Maybe it was because I listened to it instead of read it, but I highly recommend it. If you have a healthy outlook about religion but still have questions, this book will make you think.
I've only just recently begun to read Jodi's novels and I'm a fan already. This rendition of hers is by far one of the best I've read...Keep up the good work cause I'm looking forward to your next book.
Actually, it is Jennifer, not Michael. I enjoy a variety of books but am drawn to romantic historical fiction with a Christian message.
I got this book in a BOGO sale and wow what a book. Controversial is an understatement. Thought-provoking, absolutely! So, you think you know how you feel about capital punishment, maybe not. We'll written, but somewhat of a tear jerker. Be prepared for an emotional roller coaster.
I can't believe I didn't read the reviews first! It's an exact duplicate of the Green Mile (and a bit of Shawshank). It may be the first book EVER that I don't finish listening to. I also WANT MY CREDIT BACK! And does Stephen King know? He should have a big issue with this. Or maybe not, since it's not nearly as good and we all know who the original is.
Certainly not without reading the reviews!
This book will have you thinking. It deals with many of lives issues: religion, faith, politics, rand relationships. The characters are well developed and interesting.
I found this book to be enlightening. At first I thought it would bog down with all the religion, but I actually found it fascinating. The characters were solid - a Priest questioning his beliefs, an adorable and insecure Attorney who made me laugh out loud, a stoic Mother Bear etc etc. The voices were a perfect fit. It really left me wondering what I believe in. Can't say that about a lot of books!
I had read "My Sisters Keeper" last year and was glad I looked up the author for one of my first audible selections. The story line is not far fetched, rather VERY believable which is almost haunting yet heart felt.
I found myself asking questions of myself and my family. What if I was faced with the same situations? It also made me want to further research some of the items that were actually presented.
Very good, easy listen selection. However, at times I wanted to keep riding in the car so I could find out what happened next.
