I was very surprised with how thrilling and intense this book was. Not your typically vampire tale, this one really explores the emotional drain on our hero of simply being alone...the last person on earth. It's a great mixture of excitement, thrills, and emotion. I highly recommend this book!
And the narration was really superb.
I read, I write; I listen
This is a good vampire story with a twist, instead of one blood sucking ghoul everyone is a blood sucking ghoul, except for one man,Robert Neville. He is the last living soul on earth, as far as he knows. The story is about how one man survives in such an enviroment, how it came to be this way, and ultimaly how it will end. The author cleverly explains why such myths as garlic works to repel vampires and other such vampire lore. Godd narration, very entertaining.
Yeah, yeah... I like Will Smith. He's fun to watch! I also admit to having enjoyed the movie, for what it was... a popcorn, eye candy, special-effects extravaganza. But, it was NOT "I Am Legend".
Anyway, as for this audiobook, I say BRAVO! I enjoyed the slow pacing and the vocal performance was perfect. Don't download expecting a novelization of the movie, it's far, far different.
this book is a great example of how great narration can heighten the listeners experience.
This reader was incredibly chilled by both the story line and the narration.
Don't let the movie stop you-this is really nothing much like it. Try it out you will not be sorry!
I enjoy reading fantasy, science fiction, and horror the most. To improve, I read about language, psychology, spirituality, and art. I read about computer science and business for professional reasons.
A classic scary vampire novel. The novel focuses on a character who is surviving in a world overrun by vampires. The vampires are more like zombies than modern vampires, as they lack the intellect and sophistication bestowed in most vampire stories. The main character was portrayed as a nervous wreck, and the descriptions of him, his mental state, his situation, and more were very thorough and detailed.
Zombies Books in order: 1. We're Alive 2. Day By Day Armageddon 3. Roads Less Traveled Series 4. Alaskan Undead Apocalypse 5. World War Z 6. The Walking Dead 7. Rise Again 8. As the World Dies 9. Zombie Fallout
I'm into zombies not vampires. The book was written in the 50's so i thought it would be outdated. I liked the movie, but really thought the book must be very boring. A dude all by himself. Seemed a bit boring. I just pictured an artsy kind of book with a guy dealing with his internal struggle and alot of blah blah.
Well, it really is kinda all of the above, except boring. Its very interesting and I am sure if the book was written today it would definitely be with zombies, not vampires. There is some action too, so all is okay. I think it must have been redone too, I swear a date I heard was in the 1970's.
Narrator was pretty good with good inflection at the appropriate places, not seemingly randomly for no reason like some annoying narrators.
I did not like the end. It was a good ending. I don't want to give it away, but it was artsy. If you find artsy endings predictably similar you know what I mean (opposite of Hollywood endings).
If you like zombie stories I think this will satisfy you.
I really enjoyed this book. Both when I read it and when I listened to it. I would definately recommend it to a friend.
He can be a little dry and unemotional. But that probably makes him perfect for this story considering the main character is a little dry and burnt out.
Not become a vampire.
I loved this book, but I wish the second half of the book was included in the audible version. I kept thinking I didn't download it correctly or that my ipod was malfunctioning. What's the deal Audible?
I just achieved App Master!! I never thought I would make it this far!! Thanks Audible
WHAT A GREAT BOOK.. I THOUGHT I LIKED THE MOVIE,BUT THE BOOK IS TEN TIMES BETTER.THIS BOOK IS DIFFERENT THAN THE MOVIE THE FIRST,MIDDLE,ENDING THE WHOLE THING ALMOST.IN A GOOD WAY BOTH ARE GOOD,THIS BOOK IS SHORT AND INTENSE.THE MONSTERS ARE VAMPS SO YOU KNOW ITS GONE TO BE GOOD..THIS IS A MUST READ,A START TI FINISH LISTEN...ROBERTSON DEAN DID A GREAT JOB READING THIS BOOK,HE IS THE KIND OF NARRATER YOU COULD LISTEN TO OVER AND OVER..GREAT JOB GREAT BOOK...
I have watched the original 1964 movie starring Vincent Price as Robert Neville, as well as watching Will Smith play same. It seems to me that the original 1964 movie (Titled "Last Man on Earth" written by Richard Matheson) follows the book more accurate then the movie "I am Legend" w/Will Smith.
The Movie w/Will Smith was made more for the audience of today, as was the original "Last Man on Earth" in 1964. Vincent Price gave (as usual) an outstanding performance in the movie, as did Will Smith, but judging the book to the 2007 movie and giving it a poor rating is not fair to either the book nor the movie. As for the Narrator, he did his best to act the characters of the book, usually men with deep voices find it difficult to do a feminine voice.
As I titled this listen w/an open mind and try not to compare (especially with the 2007 movie), both were very good in their own rights, give credit where credit is due. I too have judged a "remake" to the original until I set my mind to understand that the 2nd movie was a stand alone movie, not one intended to be an actual remake but another persons vision of the same script using current technology to try and better the movie goers experience.
I listen to the books in the car to/from work - I could not wait each day to get into the car to listen and found myself driving slower to hear more... the narrator is fantastic, the book is, well, legendary....
