Having read her books before I'd try another Sherrilyn Kenyon, I know how great some of her book are. But I don't have anything positive to say about the narrator. Her performance MAJORLY lowered the quality of the book. Literally one of, if not the worst male impersonation I've ever heard. And the accent was equally terrible.
I was slightly disappointed that the story didn't have anything more. It was WAY too predictable. There was also a lot of unnecessary "fluff" that wasn't needed. The structure of the story could have been much much better
Anyone. Literally ANYONE else.
I did enjoy the personalities of some of the characters. I'd like to see if they appear in the series again.
I would have rated this book better if there had been a better narrator.
Makeup Nerd by Night
I am trying to listen to this book but the narrator is so annoying I can't focus. Not sure how long I will be able to handle it.
I don't think so.
Choose a different narrator.
Red hair with a big head and an even bigger ego.
This is Sherrilyn Kenyon's first novel, and I read it well after reading some of her later (and better) books, but this one is still pretty fantastic.
It is most definitely a sex book. Graphic and erotic and wonderful. Be warned! Don't go reading this at church or around your grandma.
Overall, the story is great and the reading, though awkward to listen to sometimes because of the intimate details, is enjoyable. I love Sherrilyn's world and the characters that are all interconnected!
Jan Stonebraker- love to read anything that will make me laugh and keep me on the edge of my seat. Reading has always been my first love <3
I absolutely love this series... it is one that I have read over and over again. Fantasy Lover is one of my 3 favorites... along with Night Pleasures (Kyrian)and Seize the Night (Valerius) I love them all but I favor those three more than most. This series is a great read for those who love Greek mythology. This book is more a love story. The Dark Hunters come next and will knock your socks off :) I recommend them to all the women I know. The only thing I would say is, while the narrator was good, she was a tiiiny bit cheesy lol. However, I think that's because I am very fond and partial to Holter Graham who narrates most of the series later on. He does so well that it raises the bar for narrators and makes it hard not to compare them to him.
Books books books
It took me a month to listen to this book i started it and then stopped it. But once I really gave it a chance it wasn't so bad. It took a turn that made it into an enjoyable read.
I have never read the print version and found this one by accident. I do prefer the audibles though mainly because it forces me to listen to everything that is in the storyline instead of reading ahead. I stuck by this one to the end.
When Selena called her friend Grace to come get Julian because of the crowd of women he was attracting in the square. Hilarious!
this was the first time I'd ever heard his narration. He was very good
It made me laugh at some of the hilarious antics between Grace and Julian and the reaction Julian got when taken out in public. I did feel very sad as Julian retold his story of his betrayal by his mother Aphrodite.
I'm not usually into the sexual antics or fantasy romance books because the women are so pathetic and men so sexually charged it takes too much from a good story line. However this one did catch my attention because we actually had a woman that had a good background story, was believable and had more on her mind than sex. In Julian the half human half god, he was a tragic figure and as his story unfolds, you cannot help but feel sorry for the curse he has endured for over a thousand years. Being a sex slave is still a slave and sex without emotion is carefully and artfully played out here and described as the true torture it was for Julian. The fact that he has been called out and not wanted for what he has been curse with is something he finds not only disconcerting but disturbing because of the emotions he finds emerging. Very good storyline, the sex was there but kept to a level that was comfortable played well with the storyline/plot. I will follow the rest of the series and hope the same intensity continues with the Dark Hunter series.
I've read this entire series and absolutely LOVE the Dark-Hunters. However, I was not thrilled with the narrator. She was ok, but not what I would expect from a series like this. Overall a good listen & I would recommend this series to anyone who likes the vampire genre. Sherrilyn Kenyon knows how to weave a story!
You are the sum of what you read!
