Love scary stories and thrillers.
After reading the first novel, I looked forward to reading the second one. It proved to be even better. Of course I was REALLY excited for the end of the trilogy. That's when I found out the 26 year old author died recently. I am hoping with the hit that this story is someone can come in and finish up the storyline in a way that would make Recht proud and give closure to his readers.
I like Jack Reacher style characters regardless of setting. Put them in outer space, in modern America, in a military setting, on an alien planet... no worries. Book has non moralistic vigilante-justice? Sign me up! (oh, I read urban fantasy, soft and hard sci-fi, trashy vampire and zombie novels too)
I shall sum this book up with this plot event (and if you think this is a spoiler, you'll LOVE this book):
A general comes up with a plan to sneak into and destroy an enemy complex; the general's role in this plan is to hide in a tree and shoot flares. After this mission is completed, the general discovers that he is still up in the tree surrounded by zombies (who are attracted to noise and lights, of course) and thinks to himself (no, I'm not exaggerating), "oops, I made this plan so quickly that I never thought of how I was going to escape from this tree."
HE'S A GENERAL!!!
OMG they behave so freaking stupidly that I can't stand it.
(The story does wrap up nicely though. And the narration is quite good.)

As a fellow author, I find it hard to write reviews for books. But, since I started out as an avid reader, I always see myself as a fan first.
Z.A. Recht continued this series well. If you didn't care much for the characters in book one, you definitely start feeling for them in the continuation.
I still have a hard time swallowing the NSA conspiracy. It seems they are taking it to an unnecessary level when it comes to hunting down one of the characters, but it is still enjoyable.
Every character has unique characteristics that make them easy to follow. Most of the the characters are relatable and the bad guys are absolutely the bad guys. I really enjoyed the zombies!!! Not boring run of the mill moaners and groaners but sprinters and shamblers! The military jargon in the fire fights is intense and so much fun to listen to! Is it bad that I would have loved for Brewster to turn into a zombie instead of Willis?
Anna is my favorite character. She is tenacious and well respected in her field, which adds a LOT to the overall story.
The attack on the raiders camp was my favorite scene
AIM FOR THE HEAD...DONT MISS
The best I have listened to all 3 multiple times every couple months i listen to it again its that good
hard to say Thomas for one brewster, denton sherman all are just great characters
hell the whole series I would love to listen to in one sitting but i just don't have the time
Like i said this series is one of the best zombie stories i have ever heard and its more for the characters
I love the series and while ZA Recht told a better story I think all three books are worthy of a listen
I love listening in the car on the way to work. I like history and stuff.
It picks up from where the last finished, phew!
The return of the well worn characters and the continuation of the journey.
He's got a hold of the characters and continues his good work for this book too.
Oh yes, sat in my car (having arrived at my destination) not wanting to switch off. Excellent!
Who would of thought zombies would be so much fun...
I found it hard to pause, just wanted it to continue
Read all 3, and they were all great
