I enjoyed book 1 and book 2 and can't wait until June when book 3 is to be released. I really enjoyed the story line and the characters. I highly recommend both books for any zombie lovers.
Love excellent narrators like Ray Porter. Love the Joe Ledger series.
The character development is amazing and mature.
I was surprised and saddened at Julie's death.
I thought her and Matt would be together.
Even with the disappointment of knowing there will not be a book 3 (or at least not one by Z.A. Recht) it's still worth it to listen to the first 2 books of this series. One of the best Zombie books out there and just a well written and creative survival story.
Love scary stories and thrillers.
After reading the first novel, I looked forward to reading the second one. It proved to be even better. Of course I was REALLY excited for the end of the trilogy. That's when I found out the 26 year old author died recently. I am hoping with the hit that this story is someone can come in and finish up the storyline in a way that would make Recht proud and give closure to his readers.
I like Jack Reacher style characters regardless of setting. Put them in outer space, in modern America, in a military setting, on an alien planet... no worries. Book has non moralistic vigilante-justice? Sign me up! (oh, I read urban fantasy, soft and hard sci-fi, trashy vampire and zombie novels too)
I shall sum this book up with this plot event (and if you think this is a spoiler, you'll LOVE this book):
A general comes up with a plan to sneak into and destroy an enemy complex; the general's role in this plan is to hide in a tree and shoot flares. After this mission is completed, the general discovers that he is still up in the tree surrounded by zombies (who are attracted to noise and lights, of course) and thinks to himself (no, I'm not exaggerating), "oops, I made this plan so quickly that I never thought of how I was going to escape from this tree."
HE'S A GENERAL!!!
OMG they behave so freaking stupidly that I can't stand it.
(The story does wrap up nicely though. And the narration is quite good.)
If you don't have time to read, Audio Books are the answer. I have an hour + drive to work and more than that home. I no longer dread the long drive or the traffic. My drive to and from work is now my 'ME' time, my book time.
I listen to books while running and walking my dog so on average about an hour day and like books that have a good pace to them.
This was an enjoyable, but predictable story that failed to fully explore many of the characters and develop all the plot lines fully.
This was a fair follow up to the first book, but had the same flaws as the first book also. The characters were poorly developed and some plot lines seemed to be dead ends or lacked subtlety that may have offered a more complex story.
I enjoyed the battle in Lincoln Kansas as it was the onyl significant Zombie action in the book.
I found the moment where the captain remained with his ship to be poignant.
