Nancy Travis does a fantastic job with the narration of The Story Sisters, a roller coaster ride through the troubled life of the Story family. Both beautiful and heartbreaking as you watch events unfold in each of their lives stemming from the troubled and troubling actions of one. Dark and sobering with a few bright spots this is not a light read but definitely worth the time.
I really enjoyed listening to The Story Sisters and the story resonated with me for some times afterward. I enjoy how Alice Hoffman doesn't neatly tie-up her novels as they end, and how they are never idylic.
I love Alice Hoffman's voice when she tells a story and 'The Story Sisters" is another beautiful, haunting tale. Nancy Travis is a fabulous narrator and really does justice to the story.
Where was the editor on this tedious story, that goes on and on without saying anything new? I found it difficult to care about any of the characters, even the good ones. Wish I would have read the reviews more carefully before using my credits on this book. I may try earlier books by this author, as some of those are reviewed quite complementarily.
Book Lover and Knitter
This is not up to the usual standards of Alice Hoffman's writing. I was disappointed in the story.
It is about 3 sisters, each with very different personalities, who come into their own as adolescents.
Yes the book has some sad parts of the story, but it is so well written. I listened to the whole book in 2 days. Wanted to know how it would turn out. I think the ending was fitting. I loved the narrator. I think Alice Hoffman is great.
