I was very excited to see a sequel to Scott's last book - Infectious. By keeping the main character from the last book, he caught my interest immediately and held on to it for the entire book. I listen to most books in dribs and drabs and so the story really needs to be memorable and this one was. I am also really happy to see that it's about to be made into a movie with Matt Damon playing the hero. What makes me think that the ending might change a bit????
"Contagious" follows immediately on the heels of "Infected," by the same author, forming a single story in two parts. I don't think that a listener would pick up on what is happening in "Contagious" very well if she hadn't listened to "Infected" first. With both of these books, Mr. Sigler has given us a pretty engrossing sci-fi-medical/technical/military thriller-horror story that keeps us enthralled, despite its unlikely premise. Mr. Sigler skillfully leads us into an untenable predicament (which I probably shouldn't reveal here, for the sake of preserving the suspense). At the end I was asking myself: How could the plot have gone any other way, given all the difficulties laid down by the alien intelligence? I can see why Mr. Sigler's books have become podcast sensations. If only he hadn't insisted on narrating his audiobooks himself! Please, Mr. Sigler, please, please allow professional actors to narrate your subsequent audiobooks. Then they would warrant five stars.
Scott Sigler is a pure inspiration. For those that want to comment on his voices for character;
1) He puts out ALL his own stuff, he writes and records and posts it to his site, and has new stuff out weekly 2)Do you think you could do better? Thought not.
Sigler is GREAT at what he doese, he realy grabs you by the face and throws you into the story, from a fast paced intense thrill ride of a story line, to well developed and realistic characters.
If you're into Zombie/Infectious Disease/ What If Sci Fi horror, this is a must have, and check out his other books too!
Let's first get past the cardinal rule that authors have no business reading their own material. Scott really needed to follow this rule. Voice inflections, character voices, all around speaking was badly done. Sorry Scott, but it was painful listening to you try to be a good narrator. Next, there were so many cliche's that I found myself counting them. Quite the distraction. The story did have me laugh outloud a few times, and I did find myself, at times, waiting to see what was going to happen next, but the badly written text, and bad narration made me cringe a lot more during the reading. I finished it only so I could say I finished it. Save your money, pass on this one.
Good story, was very interested in it, but after one hour of listening I had to quit. Unbelievably bad voicing performance distracted me so much from the book I couldn't stay focused. Every time he tried a new voice I spent too much time thinking how awful it was that I missed the next few minutes of what he said. His voice inflection was even more painful than the voices. Do not spend two credits on this. I'm going to buy the book and read it myself. I listen to two hours of books each day while walking my dog, and have been through tons of books. This is without a doubt, without any doubt whatsover, the worst reading of a good story - EVER.
I don't give spoilers
I have to give Scott Sigler high marks I would of never considered audio books without him and a Zune hd. Not being a reader type, I got a Zune to watch movies at work and it's podcast folder made me curious and I found his podcast novels and fell in love with audio books. Anyways great books Infected, Contagious and soon to be released Pandemic are about aliens trying to take over, I don't do spoilers so I'll leave it at that. The Sig all so narrates all his work and does a great job at it.
Epic story. After Infected I wanted more and Scott gave me a metric ton of great story I have listened to this book no less then 15 times I love it.
No really you must be joking this is a great original story. Margret, Clarence, Perry Dawsey, Drew "MFing " Phillips. Its a amazing cast with great back stories the leave you wanting even more.
I want to say its his voices even when I read the books I still here Drew and his calm delivery as he gently talks to Margret about whats going on around them as he stitches her hand up.
OH MY GOD Perry Dawsey baby has to be I want to sit down and have a beer with that crazy man. Come on its mister made of mean a loon after my own heart.
Bummer. Don't waste your time. This one is a yawner and the plot is predictable and contrived.
Great theme, but the character and plot development and did not meet expectations. I was disappointed.
