"Another satisfying Reacher adventure."
Reacher is continuing his incognito meandering tour of the US when he happens to see a news story. It tells of a sniper, someone he has previously warned to stay out of trouble, that has been nailed for a multiple-shooting-murder incident. He races to the scene to make good on his threat at the same time that the shooter demands that authorities find him. Reacher soon sees that the case against the man seems too perfect. As he starts to unravel the crime scene evidence, he realizes that there is much more involved. There is the usual muscle, gun play, and a devious plot to untangle and thwart. As always, Lee Child keeps things moving and the reader guessing.
Dick Hill has become the voice of Reacher; this is another excellent narration.
I am easily amused!
"I"m officially a Jack Reacher fan!"
My first experience with Jack Reacher and I am completely WOWED! A smart action packed mystery with a sprinkling of subtle clues and it kept me completely intrigued from start to finish. I will definitely be reading more!
"listening to film noir"
This was my first experience of this series and of Lee Child's solo work. I almost stopped listening to the book because of the narrator's voice. Once I decided it was like a campy detective film, it was easier to listen to the remainder of the book. I enjoyed the story line and the twists in the plot.
The plot did keep my attention, especially how Reacher kept out of the hands of the police.
dull, boring, campy
This book has peaked my curiosity about Reacher and I will be exploring the remainder of the series.
"The reader kills the novel"
I would never try another book that is narrated by Dick Hill.
I would if it had the right narrator.
He is boring. He does not make the novel come alive. His voice is a monotone. He is not skilled at reading a novel and making the characters come alive.
The narrator makes the story. I think this is one time that I think the movie is better than the Audible reading of the novel.
"Another Reacher gem..."
First as I was reading through this, I wondered why this is not a movie yet. The book was written almost like a script. Well thats settled. Jack Reacher is coming to theaters shortly.
The plot is solid and the chapters move fast. Its a must read for any Jack Reacher/Lee Child fan.
Yes.
I'm loving audio books more each day-being able to walk the dog, do the dishes or keep an eye on grandkids in the pool-all while listening to a book is great. My favorite genres are mystery/romance, some paranormal and lots of Science Fiction.
"Enjoyable Reacher -soon to be a movie. Fun listen"
I've read Tom Cruse is starring as Reacher in One Shot, coming out soon in 2012 so I decided to download the book-it wasn't one I'd read in print.
It's typical Jack Reacher and will be enjoyable listen for his fans. If you are new to Reacher, this is a series that does not have to be read-or listened to-in order . I encourage downloading this for a fun listen in the car.
It's not literature and is a shoot-em-up and typical of the series..can't really figure out why Cruise decided he wanted to do this specific novel, as there are other books in the series that are way more action oriented and exciting.
I'm not a big fan of Dick Hill as narrator, but he has done all the Reacher books, so apparently Lee Child likes him..guess thats what counts. I find his voice dull and his attempt on women's voices laughable-in the car I was mimicking him as I drove along listening. I think Reacher should have more animation in narration-more oomph.
But thats just my opinion and it's not bad enough to make me avoid more of the series.
Online Grad Student, I prefer audiobooks to bound books. Preferences: history, disasters, Preston/Child, Lee Child
"The BEST Jack Reacher Yet"
This was the best of all the Reacher thrillers. Lots of twists and turns, lots of shooting and evasions details that bear out. Interesting secondary characters, with no implausible scenarios. The best of the series.
"Hard to pause."
Great story! Moving along well. The Jack Reacher character is getting bolder and more arrogant but remains believable. The narrator is good but his female voices are pitiful.
Overall worth a credit.
"The usual good stuff from Lee Child"
I had a few qualms though. It's kind of a given in these books now that he is going to bed with the female police officer, who is always gorgeous (Why can't one be average looking? They need love too) . As well, he is a homeless guy, why is everyone clueless until he tells them what to do? And he's never wrong, and in this book he's even bragging ("I'm the best investigator the military ever had' etc) about how amazing he is! Not my favourite Reacher book but still better than most other authors. Thank God the last books by Child (61 hours, Worth Dying For) have been back to his excellent standard. I'll keep reading.
"One Shot"
This author being Lee Child in breathtaking at what he writes. Especially the series that include the life and trials of John Reacher. The man is so exciting that you never want the book to end and cannot wait till the next one come out. I am reading now Gone Forever, you cannot go wrong on his books. The ones without Reacher as the main character are also good, 61 Minutes was excellent too as are all of his books.
