This story was fun from start to finish. There are tender moments and parts when you can't help but laugh out loud. I loved the charming characters and small town descriptions. It is a great story for any time and not just Christmas.
Predictable and trite. While there are some feel good feelings here, it's very easy to predict everything that will happen and it is over the top at times. There are also some glaring gaps in the logic of the story too. There are better books out there.
Loved this Book. Fannie Flagg was the perfect person to read this book. I enjoyed every minute of it and the "family " feel was terrific.
Absolutely. Fannie Flagg reads the story as only she would have intended, building on the characters and spinning the story that transports you to another place and another pace. I suffer from chronic migraine and listening to Fannie Flagg read, transported me away from the pain and lead me into a place so peaceful I could see myself there. The small towns Fannie Flagg creates just seem to beg you to relax and enjoy the day.
The story lingered on the characters and scenery just long enough to paint the picture in your imagination before moving you into the next twist of the story. It was never dull. I felt like Evelyn Couch from Fried Green Tomatoes, anxious to get back and hear more of the adventures and discover the mysteries of the sleepy town of Lost River. It really is a story of faith and hope. You will laugh and you may even tear up, but you will feel very uplifted from this story. Everything falls into perfect place, piece by piece despite the curveballs life throws them.
I loved all the characters, but would have to say my favorite character was Frances. She had such a big heart and was always thinking of others, plotting sometimes how to make them happy despite themselves. Mind you, minding her own business all the while.
I can't think of a name more appropriate for the story than A Redbird Christmas or a place called Redbird formerly known as Lost River.
Yes, it was an easy story to listen to on a road trip and short enough to finish on the trip. I like all of Fannie Flagg's books. If you like the Mitford books you would like this.
