In general, I'm a cynic of self-help books. Dr. Myss was recommended by a trusted advisor. Immediately, I was enthralled by her delivery style and the obvious emotional connection and commitment to the lecture subject. The message resonated in a way that has made a profound change in my view of myself and life. I am so thankful to have pushed myself to try this lecture.
Carolyn Myss' informative content and clear audio recording make this a must have for anyone curious about spirituality, human behavior, mythology, self development or wellness.
While I found this an interesting listen, the more I went on, the more I found Myss to be less open-minded than one might expect of a person portraying herself as a guru. I particularly found her prejudices against body modification (in the less than drastic form of piercings) and against therapy to be dissuasive. I also felt that there were some contradictions in her preaching. That said, I listened through the whole thing and tried to remain open minded, and still gained some interesting thoughts and insights from the whole thing. Might be useful if you are interested in looking at your personal relationships in a different manner or deconstructing your own actions and thought process for introspection and insight.
Not necessarily. I'm hoping to eventually find a more relevant book as to what I'm looking for, but this wasn't all a bad read. It just wasn't what I was hoping for.
This reading was taken from a workshop (though she is the only one who speaks), and I do think that format helped it, as she has down her emphasis and you definitely get the feeling from this that she is speaking directly to people present with her, not to a microphone. Which is very appropriate to the subject matter. I also feel that having the author's voice gives you a more authentic understanding of how she feels about what she is saying on topics, and in some cases this does serve to demonstrate a negative attitude.
I have learned a new way to relate to and understand our energy. It presents the chakras in a more spiritual way but still shows the way they correlate with our body and shows us how to heal our body and spirit.
I purchased this audiobook looking for a detailed explanation of the seven chakras. It is much more. It is a deep book that merits multiple readings, and personally it opened my eyes to things I was not even aware of. I really loved this work.
I admit that once I started listening to this, it was hard to stop. Caroline Myss is definitely energetic and enthusiastic about what she's talking about, and I can tell that she's had genuine and deep spiritual experiences herself. My only issue was how she presented her material, which seemed way too authoritative and dogmatic. Everything she explains is abstract and even metaphorical, but it's presented as if her "mapping" of energies is bible truth, like she has everything figured out and we just need to hop on board.
I'm from Chicago, raised Catholic, and she TOTALLY has a harsh, no b.s. attitude that is characteristic of Catholics in this city. She speaks anti-religiously, but holds the same sureness and certainty of any nun/teacher/mother from my days in Catholic elementary school. To me, even though her ideas are more evolved than old school religion, her tone for this new material still sounds like it's straight from old school religion, with that "shame on you" tone that I really don't care for. She sounds way too much like a new age nun to me.
So I liked the material, but got a little distracted from her, her tone, her attitude, and the confidence she had that everything she was describing was 100% true.
This has to be one of the greatest audio books I've ever purchased. Caroline's ability to break everything down into sections in a way that anyone can relate to and understand. I can go on and on. Purchasing and listening to this audio book is without a any doubt a great investment of your time and money. DO IT!!
