Lori and Andy's relationship moved forward
Andy Carpenter as always, because he makes me laugh with his deprecating humor.
Yes, Grover Gardner is the voice of Andy Carpenter and I have enjoyed his performance in other works as well.
I had enjoyed all of the earlier books in this series but hadn't read a new one in a while, so I happily picked up a couple in the last sale. What a treat it was to return to the dry humor and entertaining life of sporadic defense lawyer Andy Carpenter, combined with genuinely interesting insights into court case development and trial techniques. It's refreshing to find a mystery story that doesn't take itself too seriously or dwell at length on blood and gore. One feature I particularly like is that the relationships with other parties involved in the case, including policemen, prosecutors, even deep down Judge "Hatchet", are cordial and understanding, a nice change from the "loner in opposition to all forces in authority" model that dominates much of this literature. Grover Gardner does a perfect job of portraying Andy Carpenter and his observations of himself and the personalities and circumstances revolving around him -- and Gardner seems to enjoy every minute of it. Plus I'm not in essence a dog lover, but it's easy to appreciate the dogs that, err..., "people" this series!
I've recommended it to several friends as a book to just enjoy; the humor, plot, they writer's ability to engage the reader.
I've been looking for a writer who could entertain me with mystery without foul language or torrid sex scenes. I was able just to enjoy the whole book...so upbeat. I never quite guessed the outcome and didn't feel I was reading the "same ol' same ol' plot in which I knew what was coming.
Love dogs and mysteries. David Rosenfelt did not disappoint. Grover Gardner is one if my favorite narrator's so a win win all round!
I am a former language arts teacher who likes to read and listen to audiobooks. I love a well-told story whether it is fiction or biography. I have a book on my iPod, iPad, and by my bed at all times!
I liked the characters in the book and the unexpected events.
I will either read or listen to more books by this author.
What a fun book! I do appreciate the irreverance of the main character and the narrator does a bang-up job of bringing the character to live. It is not the most suspenseful crime drama, and the story is a bit lacking, but over all it is a great "read."
I wouldn't use a credit because its a bit short but its a easy listen without too many lulls. That's probably the best thing about this series, they move at a fast pace for those who don't like too much detail.
Rosenfelt's style is very enjoyable combining humour with an interesting plot ... even though you tend to have the solution only at the end ... the journey is really enjoyable as his wise cracking self effacing style is just as pleasant as the story ...
I use his book as a break in between longer sagas.
