The narration was like listening to a newscaster in a way and the plot just wasn'tinteresting at all ....
I bought this book cause I was tired of waiting for the next Song of Fire and Ice book. Thought I would enjoy another story by George RR Martin. Boy was I disappointed. This book seemed to drag on forever. There were about seven times I thought - this will be the end of the book, but no it dragged on some more.
I don't usually write reviews, but felt strongly enough about this book that I thought I could save someone else the money - don't waste it on this book.
I expect nothing will disappoint me more in 2011 than this book. I bought it because GRRM was an author, but there is no way that a writer of his caliber was involved in this book. It was a B-/C+ murder mystery that I spent the whole book waiting for that big moment when it became awesome, and then it ended. If you like $5 paperback murder mysteries, this is what you are looking for, but if you are looking for the amazing writing of George RR Martin, this is not it!
I thought that is was crude and ruff. It was a challenge trying to stay engaged. When the story was engaging then it became too crude to be enjoyable. I guess this book is not my style. I felt like the story led me through the unnecessary rubbish.
George R.R. Martin should never be listened too. Couldn't go past the first two hours without being bored. I've read a few of his books and would recommend them but the three books I've tried to listen to, were not very good at all. If you like his books, don't ruin that by listening to them.
