Absolutely. It was wonderful hearing Barbara Leigh-Hunt narrate. Anyone who's seen AMC's Pride and Prejudice will recognize her as Lady Catherine de Bourgh. I found that I even understood the book more listening to Leigh-Hunt narrate.
I don't want to give it away, but at the end, when Mr. Calverly returns to Bath. You suspect you know what he's been up to at this point, and it's wonderful getting that validation.
I have not.
Immensely satisfying. I laughed for sure.
I wish Leigh-Hunt would read more of Heyer's works. It's great fun and a pleasure to listen to.
*Black Sheep* is one of my all time favorite Georgette Heyer novels .Sadly this audio version was very disappointing. I don't want to slam the performer, but rather whoever cast her to be the reader. All the voices came across as slightly querulous old ladies; including the impish teenage niece, the 28-yr old heroine, and even the very masculine hero of the piece. Timing, pacing were fine, the story itself (when read to yourself) is sprightly and a delight. I could not even finish listening. It was so painful to envision the story with the narrators tonality, quivers and shakes.
What a delicious delight it is to listen to this wonderfully performed audio book of a charming Georgette Heyer novel. I have recently discovered Heyer and have listened to several selections. All are witty, clever, entertaining stories. This story is perhaps especially satisfying because of the ages of the Abigail and Miles. They both are such very fine people (even thought Miles is considered the black sheep of his family) that one is so happy for their happiness.Highly recommended.
I would & have. One of Heyer's best I think. I love this story, the characters, the dialogue, the wit, the humour. It's delightfulI & can be listened to again & again.
I really love the two main characters, Miles & Abby. They're well matched. Down to earth, great sense of humour. A really satisfying love story.
I like her voices, timing & pauses are perfect. Intimate conversations between the main characters are memorable. I think she does a great job of reading this story.
This was a very enjoyable reading of a Georgette Heyer classic
Barbara's reading was great, pitch perfect.
With such a good reading enjoyment of Georgette Heyer's use of english made sitting down and listening to this such a pleasure.
I couldn't get past the wrongness of that shaky, "old lady voice" that was supposed to depict a younger character. I had to stop listening. Now im hoping to trade it for another Heyer book.
I would listen again because I love the characterizations and the wonderful dialogues.
It is Georgette Heyer at her most entertaining.
She is one of the best narrators of this series.
Was great fun.
The Talisman Ring because of the repartee between the hero and heroine was great.
Reading or listening to this book made me forget any problems and was relaxing
