The author seemed to be getting paid by the word. Good story but could have been told in mush less time.
I felt that there were too many graphic descriptions of sex that were all very poorly written. I don't mind sex scenes when they contribute to the story and are well written but these were obviously gratuitous and canned and it seemed like there was one every other track. The story itself seemed re-cycled and tired. It was predictable to the point of boring. Further the characters were totally one-dementional with zero depth.
I am from the south and very familiar with the accents from the region where the book was set and the performance by the narrator of the female characters was so stereo-typical and false, it was almost insulting.
I will probably never purchase another book by Sandra Brown.
Simplistic, pornograpic, repetative story with a very sexist portrayal of both southern men and women. It was a disappointment and a waste of $5 and 16 hours.
At first, all the details and characters turned me off, but this story touched on so many story lines it's not to be missed. Not a romance, but a love story. Not about a female heroine, but a female survivor. This will NOT be a waste of your listening time. Telling you to enjoy seems odd because although it has a happy ending, it's not a happy book.
story is fantastic, but in moving from part 1 to part 2 an entire section of the story is missing. i was so confused during part 2 that i actually came back to audible.com to see if i had inadvertently not downloaded a part. is this an author, publisher, editor or production problem?
I found this book to be enjoyable and a change from some of the intense listening I do. The only negative was that it was a bit too long.
This is one of the bst books I have listened to in a while...worth your time - you won't be disappointed
This was well written insofar as the characters went - well developed and defined. And what I liked best was the mystery involved, especially as it pertained to the "wealthy" family and the role of the members. I enjoyed this story.
I had just finished a really good book and wasn't sure I would be able to find another gripping one so fast. Five minutes into this book I was hooked. It is a truly tragic but wonderful story, one of those books that you are sad to have end.
The story may be great, I wouldn't know. I couldn't listen past the first 30 minutes. This narrator is nauseating, grating, and infuriating. He makes the women sound like ridiculous caricatures. For a story that seems so much about the value/rights/respect of women, he was the wrong choice. He sounded more like he was making fun of the characters. A female narrator might have been the best choice, but ANYONE would have been better than this clown!
