This is the first book of Sandra Brown that I have either listened to or read. And I am curious to listen to another to see what else she has to offer. This book was intense I found myself almost agitated by the events like I had been apart of them in some small degree.
I could see Breath of Scandal on Lifetime.
This book had some intense moments. I think it would be difficult for anyone who had been a victim themselves in a violent crime. I found myself being drawn into the story and sharing the characters sense of impotence when all normal avenues of help and justice were shut to her.
The main character in this novel was raped (very early in the book so I am not giving away any of the story line with this review) and it is incredibly off putting to have a man narrating the moments after the rape and her account of it. I ended up finishing the book but there were times I was cringing while listening to him.
I really enjoyed this tale from down south! The reader was great....he's not a female so he doesn't sound exactly female...if you can get over that it's all up hill from there! I loved this story and found myself doing extra chores and staying up later and listening....I only give 5 stars when I think it's totally deserved!!! I am a picky credit user and am not disappointed! Enjoy!
I didn't like the narrator reading the female voices. It was ok when it was the main characters thoughts, but when she talked I hated her voice from him reading it.
Also, I wanted to strangle the main character several times. I never skip ahead on audio books and read every kind of genre, but on this one I had to skip ahead because I was so frustrated and wanted to know what happened without quitting the book altogether. This was not my favorite book.
Tedious is right! This was a decent story with the exception of the overdone, over dramatized sex/love sections. Dick Hill is usually a good reader. His interpretation of female voices makes me giggle. This material (especially the initial love scene between Dillion and Jade) was too long, wordy, and over the top. Who makes love like this? This was disgustingly excessive. Too funny to be pornographic. There could have been better editing. The conversation was unrealistic, sickening and laughable. I think that Mr. Hill thought that when he whispered or lowered his voice, it sounded passionate. Unfortunately this was not the case. I drove over 3 miles (at 70 mph) listening to the dribble before I pulled to the side of the road and stopped so that I could fast forward my ipod so I could get to the end of the story. Get the abridged version if it is available. If not, the printed version might be easier to tolerate.
Great story about overcoming one of women's worst nightmare. Really enjoyed it and could not stop listening. Very well written and narrated.
Because of all the good reviews, I was looking forward to this book. At first I liked it but after a few hours of listening some new characters appeared that had nothing to do with the story. I could no longer make any sense of what was going on. I thought maybe there was a problem with my downloading. I have never read this author before and would not again. I had wanted to like this book and am sorry it was such a disappointment.
Book is not bad. Predictable with cookie-cutter characters, but still interesting. I felt manipulated, but in the right direction.
That the book rightly points out how unfair the legal system/society can be toward the victims of rape. Made me realize again how glad I am I don't live in the south.
Dick Hill is not a very good narrator. He is poor at depicting women, and always seems to add his own take when he's reading. I've 'read' other books/authors with him as narrator and he always, more than necessary, imposes himself on the readings.
This is probably a good book. But the narrator is so horrendous I couldn't finish it. His voice for his female characters is so irritating I couldn't stand to listen any more. Remember Tootsie? That is his voice for every female in the book. Awful!
Daily commuter relying on Audible to keep awake. I need excitement! If something crazy doesn't happen in the first 20 mins I'm done!
About 1/2 way through the book, when they introduced Duncan, I was totally bored out of my wits and wondered why I downloaded this story... so I went back to Audible and read the reviews. Most listeners liked the book and I read about the ending so I decided to stick it out. The book was OK, but a real snore. I was happy that Jade got her revenge at the end, but it was a long and boring trip for the listener to get there...
Narrator was good. No complaints.
I like action and thriller or detective stories. This book was more of a romance novel - close to a harlequin type story. Not my cup of tea...
