"A pretentious downer of a book"
Although the author crafts some neat descriptions and the narrator is very talented, this is a pretentious downer of a book. My most unpleasant audiobook experience ever.
"Slowwwwwww"
I tried multiple times, but this book never caught me up into the story. Very slow. If there is a payoff at the end, I will never get it, because it is too painful to get to that point.
"Wish I could forget it so I could read it AGAIN!"
I absolutely was taken in by this book. I struggled at first with the place and culture, but very quickly I was drawn in and transported. I'm not very critical and generally enjoy what I consume, but this book went so very quickly. I enjoyed the characters, the dilemmas, and the conflict faced by these truly magnificent characters. Don’t pass it up.
"Didn't care / didn't finish"
I gave up on this book about 2 hours from the end. Like another reviewer here, I realized I just didn't care about any of the characters and I wasn't curious to see what happened to them.
"Christine Falls"
This book has some interesting twists, but it does give you pause to think about what people did to others in the name of "what is best for them", not taking into consideration what the consequences might be for those they were "helping"
"Difficult to follow"
While the writing style was acceptable and the reader did a good job with all the characters, the plot twisted and turned. This could be good, but these twists seemed to go on and on. I didn't even care to finish it to find out the resolution. Too bad, I really wanted to like it.
"Brilliant match of narrator and story"
Timothy Dalton brings a new dimension to a dark, disturbing mystery. His performance gives voice to each of the characters that brought them to life in my car. This was another example of why I've grown to look forward to my commute with a well done Audible offering.
"Good book"
I enjoyed this book. &I mostly likely will listen to it again. I had someone say once if you will listen to a book a second time it deserves at least a 4-star. I did have some problems following the beginning of this book I don't know if it was that the characters were not developed completely at the beginning to my liking or if it was that the story wasn't explained well in the beginning but as it went on it got better and by the end of the book I really liked the characters the development of the characters and the plot .
"very slow"
slow plodding doesn't get into plot for several chapters. once the actual story starts it still doesn't make sense as to way the main caracter gives a damn
