I've read this book years ago, but decided to purchase the audio version for my last road trip. This is just as great as reading it. Robin Miles did such an amazing job!
I really didn't enjoy this book.
The plot had potential, but it took SO long to get where it was going. That, combined with the author's obsession with intricate details that are almost always irrelevant, and her preoccupation with inserting gratuitous sex wherever possible, left me struggling to get through this one. I found myself asking aloud, "Can we just get on with it?"
Ultimately, I found the story disappointing, and I was glad when it was over. There were interesting elements that could have made for a rewarding experience, and that is why I stuck it out... unfortunately, the end result was not worth the time invested.
The narrator did a commendable job, using so many unique accents that it actually seemed like different people speaking.
I took a chance on this one, and it didn't pan out. You can't win them all, I guess.
Recommended to me because She was like Stephen King, hmmm I'm not sure, but she's good !
But to say she's King .. No . She's great on her own. Well written, on the edge of the page. The whole book had great heroes and villains, I really wanted Miles to win out, and you couldn't help but feel Cory needed an adjustment. I was thinking in my head, don't go in there , or no this is going to end badly.like a great horror movie on the screen!!
My only complaint , the ending dragged, I won't give a spoiler. I HATE that , but that being said the actual ending was too twighlight zone for me.
I'm a huge Octavia Butler fan! I am actually a huge fan of black female Sci fi authors in general. Since I have read all of Octavia Butler's Books, I decided that the next black female Sci Fi author I would try is Tananarive Due.
Let me tell you this woman can write! There were several nights I couldn't sleep because my overactive imagination combined with this Sci Fi horror had me looking over my shoulder, hearing sounds that weren't there and turning on all of the lights. It honestly got so I couldn't listen at night if I wanted to get some sleep. and then there were the times I binged listened because I just HAD TO KNOW what happened to the characters. Oh and I can't forget the time my sin had to put me on time out from listening to the book because I was hollering and screaming about something that was happening in the story while I was driving and he said it was too much for me. Lol!
Great Story! 3 thumbs up! Highly recommended!
Loved this book..unlike anything I'd ever read/listened to before. I felt as if I was transported into the story, I couldn't stop listening! The narrator did an awesome job with all of the people she had to portray. I've recommended this book to my friends and family!
The only thing I didn't particularly like about this book is Miles and Angela. I would've love to see this book without the romance angle, but it didn't kill the story for me.
