This is an interesting book in that there are no 'good guys' in the story. Thieves steal from thieves and then other thieves chase the first thieves. In that sense, I did not find any of the characters particularly likeable.
Connolley does provide some interesting looks into some of the details of how certain crimes might be committed, but the techology he describes in detail is not up to date. For instance, the surveillance cameras one thief uses have to conntected by wires - wireless technology apparently has not made it into his knowledge base.
If you like Connelly you will probably enjoy this book, but it does standout in any way and the ending is not surprising.
Slightly just slightly slow start BUT WOW then it hits the road running and packs a punch. And the bad guy, karch, omg you want to reach in and grab him by the throat. Not sure I have come across such a well written bad guy in a long time if ever. He is soooooo bad you are truly not certain if he will be defeated.
It really was a 'page turner' not sure what to call that when you are listening and not really turning pages. You really start to root for Cassie and with every page you are not sure if things will work out. She did 'wrong' things for right, heart wrenching, reasons
I think so, yes. Never listen to LJ previously but I would listen again
Would love a sequel but not sure how Connelly would pull it off. I guess its good to have a stand alone book every now and then!
32-year old chemist and pharmacist from Québec, Canada. I've listened to over 100 audiobooks in 18 months : classic detective, sci-fi, 20th century history.
You'd think Connelly has enough bread and butter by now to create new characters like Cassie Black and write novels he wants to write, just like Void Moon. It shows Connelly poured his soul into this one, but I guess it didn't sell as good as any Harry Bosch novel.
Well anyway, Void Moon very good storyline with some tasteful flashbacks, excellent strong characters, lively scenes, intense suspense, non-traditional bittersweet ending. I was susprised with this narrator too, his style fit the story quite well. All in all, a very good book. If you like Connelly but want to try something different than Bosch, than try Void Moon or Chasing the Dime.
NV, not NY
I confess the majority of Michael Connelly's books I downloaded from the local library. It's amazing how generous his contribution is to free public access to his audio collection. I must also confess that crime novels aren't my first, second, of third choice of genres to read, but in between great historical fiction novels like Michael Connelly's The Pillars of the Earth series, his crime novels are still a lot of fun. The difference is, a year from now I'll barely remember the story and it will have had virtually zero impact on me - purely entertainment, whereas I'll remember The Pillars of the Earth and World Without End for a long time. They educated as well as entertained, and as such, had a measureable impact on my life. In other words, if you haven't read Pillars of the Earth, forget this book. You can always come back to it later.
I could not believe that I actually finished this book. It was awful. I have enjoyed Connelly books in the past but this was horrible.
I hear voices. But maybe that's because there's always an Audible book in my ear.
This is a terrific plot and is nearly ruined completely by a horrible, boring narration. There are so many readers out there that are much better. Too bad one wasn't used for this book.
I really like the bosch character and thought I would give this one a try. I just don't think that it was up to par or that rivoting, ok story with very little suspense, you could figure out what was going to happen way before the story got there.
“I love all genres of books, however when I listen to audio books as I clean, garden, drive they are better with a lot of heat!
Micheal Connelly is one of my favorite authors and this book did not disappoint; great story that made my commute flyby
I love Connelly's work because it is always easy to read, the characters are easy to learn and the time flies by. I often listen while driving or running and I can always count on a Connelly book to hold my interest and entertain. Void Moon certainly does this.
Details and action
It got better and better after a bit slow beginning with a lot of details.
Hedid a good job
