Peeved in Phoenix
This tale was just one of the finest character studies I have ever read. Simpathetic without being soppy. The language and turns-of-phrase are beautiful. I enjoyed this book almost as much as the Kite Runner. The narration was also excellent.
A Thousand Splendid Suns is a poignat story depicting the lives of two young women in Afghanastan from 1954 to 2004. The story eloquently follows the lives of two young women from two differnt generations showing how thier lives flow together and seperate from one onother in a land rife with war, violence, and political instability. The plight of the Afghani women during this time period is depicted with such stunning detail that the listener will wonder why they are not doing more to help rid the world of such injustices in this day and age. Brilliantly told on so many levels!
A definitive must read.
The reader was annoying, substituting a babyish "W" sound instead the letter R. But the book is excellent and not to be missed!
This is an incredible book - highly recommend it. It tells a engrossing story of the lives of 2 women in Afganistan. It is not the type of book I usually read - I like action and horror - but you lose yourself in the story.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The only problem I had was that the reader has such a sing song cadence that I often got side tracked listening to her and had to go back to catch the story line.
I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book. It was a great and entertaining listen. I find some books do not lend themslves to audio but this book does. It was even better than Kite Runner which I also loved. I highly recommend it.
This is a must. The story of two women and how their very different lives collide. This is not a feel-good story. It is more a superb piece of literature that should become mandatory reading (listening).
This author was able to transport me into situations in which I have had no remote experience nor probably ever will living in the middle of the US. It really made me look at Afghanistan in a whole new way and the citizens of this war torn region. He is a fabulous author. "Kite Runner" was slightly better but that still means this was an exceptional read.
