Audiobook addict with eclectic interests.
My daughter (11) and I enjoyed the sequel just as much as the first book. The characters are interesting, the story is well told, and the narration is wonderful. Four thumbs up!
Everything I liked about the first one - interesting, clever, well written, great characters, very funny, and I really love getting the demons' points of view. As with the first one, I thoroughly enjoyed this story, and I'd have no problem with my kids listening to or reading it.
I find the audio version of this series more enjoyable than the print version. This is mostly due to the wonderful performance by Simon Jones. I...sometimes give 5 stars for performance when it...maybe...isn't deserved - but in this case, it REALLY is.
Another reason is that in the print version there are multiple footnotes on nearly every page...which is not soooo bad, but having the footnotes read inline by Simon Jones is MUCH better!
i live in the kentucky bluegrass and enjoy coffee in the morning while listening to a great book.
We bought this series for our son (who is also named Nathaniel, he's 12) and my husband and I listened to this trilogy along with him. It was fantastic. I loved the subtle humor and the storyline had me guessing all the way through. A real treat! :)
It doesn't quite live up to the first book, but rarely does the sequel. However we were very engaged in the further adventures of the characters and are now wanting the third book.
I've no idea where it ranks in the hundreds I have listened to! It's a great book, the worst in the trilogy I think (often the case for middle books of 3) but it's very enjoyable still.
The narrator is great and the antagonistic relationships between the characters are subtle and wonderful.
The Golem's Eye ranks among the highest of the books I've listened to. The author's writing is amusing and witty. The plot is lighthearted and the narrator's ability to bring Bartimaeus to life made for a fun and enjoyable time.
The personality of Bartimaeus.
He did an amazing job narrating this series. He truly brought Bartimaeus to life and was spot on for the tone and sarcasm the author was going for. I've listened to over 200 audiobooks (yes, 200...but it's been over the past few years), and Simon Jones' narration of this series has been one of my favorite so far.
I actually chuckled out loud a few times, something I very rarely do.
Both the J. Stroud and S. Jones did a great job bringing Bartimaeus's world to life.
32 yrs old and love to read! Even with a hectic schedule Audible still gives you the chance to enjoy great books on the go! Can't beat that!
It ranks 2nd so far, I liked the first book of the trilogy The Amulet of Samarkand better, and Darkfall by Dean Koontz is one of my favorite books ever!!!! I've really just gotten started with my Audible collection and listening. Jonathan Stroud is a master!!!! His stories are so creative and entertaining. He ranks up there with King and Koontz and that's saying something!!!
Easily my favorite part was when the Resistance raided Gladstone's tomb and the insane aphrite made his first appearance.
No I have never heard any of his performances before, but I was completely blown away!!!! His performance was top notch. Well I take that back I heard his performance of the first book of the series, The Amulet of Samarkand on a friends account and that was why I joined Audible.
Of course, some remarks and scenarios had me in stitches!!!!
In closing just again want to say how big a fan o am of Audible and how very much I enjoy the performances and will always and do recommend to everyone I know!!!! Keep up the great work!!!!!
