Sassy dialogue, humor, and a great reader are important to me.
this is one of my all time faves and I have re listen many times. N.R. and our hero are just plain steamy. Do not miss this one or After the Night by this author. Enjoy as I have.
I have a real crazy in love relationship with books!!!
So here's what matters. The narration was superb! I have just added Natalie Ross to my fav list. She is easily in my top 10. I think it had a good storyline (in general).
What I didn't like? Yes, as everyone else has said the incest was creepier than a haunted house. There are just some things that I am not used to (thank goodness), do not want to get used to, and don't even want to think about...and incest is right up on the top of that list. I mean creepy...
And not that I'm trying to continuously tell you how much I am frazzled by that (which is obvious), but whats up with the whole cousin thing? Um 2nd cousins are not distant cousins. Geesh 2nd cousins come over for dinner and not just on holidays. I mean who lives with cousins their whole lives... only to grow up and sleep with them? This could not be normal.
With that being said, I don't understand why the main character couldn't have been like a God-daughter who was adopted by the family and just grew up with the other kids. I mean did they really have to be cousins though? I mean in my eyes you are only distant cousins when you can't exactly pinpoint how you are related lol.
OK so back to the story. I really liked Webb. I thought he was interesting, firm but kind hearted, and masculine. I liked Roanna too but geesh she was a bit obsessed with Webb. I mean who harbors that type of obsession over a span of 20 years??
I think it had a good storyline (in general) and I really enjoyed this read. Shocking I know, but seriously if incest was taken out of the picture I would have rated this book a 5 and loved it. Even still I recommend it. And to top it off I did learn something from this book...I could never be a private investigator because not once could I correctly guess who the real killer was.
I read a different book of Linda Howards earlier this year and loved it, hoping to find another great hit I ran down the list of her books with high ratings and chose this one for my next read.
There is a short short scene in the book where one of the side characters has sex with her father, and if that's not bad enough, she's married to her cousin. The cousin later marries the main character, who is his *other* cousin...
This did a lot to drag down the book. Incest just isn't my thing.
Even if you ignore the incest which is only brought to your attention a few times, I just didn't think this had a great story line. The narrator Natalie Ross was great as always though.
I would recommend skipping this book altogether and checking out Linda's book "After the Night"
love to escape in to my Books, Historical, Highlander Scottish Romance , Mysteries & Suspense , Time Travel the Classics, Paranormal Romance
Very good and enjoyable love story with a bit of mystery and a who done it.That is to say I liked it very much !!!
Interesting, Sexy, Mystery ..
Rowen I think thats how her name is spelled ... She is complex sometimes and she can be predictable also. I like the love story between her and the male lead. From children to adults their story is interesting .
The murder of Jesse
yes but I couldnt
Interesting love story with a murder mystery thrown in. Good Listen
Drop some of the sex scenes as they are repeated over and over. I am no prude but how many times can you read about the same scene?
Less repetition. It seems like every other chapter covers ground already written about.
Almost didn't finish the book....
Very slow moving, if I had borrowed this book from the public library I would have taken it back immediately but as I wasted 1 credit on it I kept listening just in case it got any better. It didn't, have now given up one third of the way thru. Big disappointment.
Narrator has pleasant voice.
Wish I had picked something else.
It has been one of my favorites. I loved the narrator and her male voices. They were so real. The story line was suspenseful, romantic, shocking, and thoroughly entertaining.
The ending and finding who the murderer was.
Her voices as stated earlier were superb. Her pacing, timing, and voice inflections were effective and kept me entertained.
An emotional rollercoaster. Every human emotion and fraility is portrayed...love, hate, lust, deceit, jealousy, greed, betrayal, sympathy, empathy all wrapped up in one.
A very good audiobook that you won't be dissappointed with!
While the narrator has a nice voice and reads well, what she's reading is basically crap. The plot had the potential to be good, but the author created a main character with, well, NO character: she's as interesting and tiresome as a wet kleenex. I think the author's intent was to create a character that you could "feel for" and rally around, but she failed.
I got this one in the sale bin-- and it shows.
I generally deplore abridged books but I'd have taken the scissors to this unabridged one in a heartbeat. For characters built up to be intelligent, they sure had idiotic inner dialogues and rediculous assumptions about each other. It was writtin like a soap opera in that one could skip an entire week of episodes (or whole chapters in this case) and still know what's going on due to endless repitition and mussings of each character over the same scenes.
