quite one of the most profound writers of our time. thank goodness I am lucky enough to have read this its really been intrumental in changing my life
This audio book took a little while to become "comfortable"; The authors accent is unique and had I not been prepared for it (by reading other reviews), it would have probably taken longer for me to settle in. However - like others have said - Tolle's voice becomes the perfect fit for his message; His sound is wise and almost hypnotic - but doesn't put you to sleep. In fact, I wanted to pay attention to every word spoken. I didn't want to stop listening and couldn't wait to resume during the next commute to work.
Since he is the author, he understands his message and is able to read it in a way that helps deliver his message clearly - despite his unique accent.
The book is full of moving moments; In fact, I wrote down many quotes that I felt were profound insights. This book has literally awakened "me" and for the first time, I'm able to see life for what it is - this moment.
Give this book a chance. Listen. Tolle speaks many truths that resonate with people who are ready to awaken. There are some assertions made that may be considered more mystical/psuedo science (the pain-body for example), but the message is still applicable and meaningful.
Yes, its such amazing book and we all can benefit from it.
learning about EGO and how it works.
Self-awareness and ignoring my EGO
If you're ready to deepen your existing spirituality or feel you have put yourself through enough suffering and want to better understand yourself, this could be one of the most important books you'll ever read. I found the chapter on the pain body (ego) fascinating. The book overall is not preachy, gives good examples, is of the scientific mind, and embodies the direction we should all strive towards in order to evolve. I've listened over and over, and find something new to learn every time- a sign of a good transformative book.
Plain MP3 instead of being forced to use I tunes or some other software which will not allow me to burn to CD or MP3 format.
Can not burn to CD or save as MP3 format to play on a plain MP3 player or PC must have a device specified by you ??? .... won't buy another based on this for sure.
Here and now
Anyone who has trouble with his speaking and dealing with the ego has missed the point and you may not be ready for this book. I spend my time being a mother, wife and I also compete at sports for a living, so ego and pain bodies are all around me all the time. If you start to get stumped listen to the woman's story (chapter 6 start part two) over and over. You will get a moment of enlightenment if you are ready. When I start to feel like I am fighting the ego or other peoples I listen to this. Fighting is just adding another layer. You also need to remind yourself that compulsive thinking is an addiction and it's not going to go away instantly, sorry life is not that easy. I would recommend reading the power of now. This book is my favorite, but I wouldn't have been able to absorb it as easily without the power of now.
I wish I would have just bought the book and read it, it is a HORRIBLE recording. A machine or something. So hard to get through!
Seriously? The recording is awful, awful, awful. I cant keep my eyes open and I listen to text books.
