I am a huge fan of both CJ Box and Audible, it is about time they found each other. If all of Mr. Boxs' Joe Pickett series was on Audible I would download them all.
I have read and reread them all. I can not wait to listen to "Blue Heaven".
Thank you Audibles
All mysteries all the time, that's what I read. I joined Audible when I started having a long commute. Now I listen everywhere!
I truly love C.J. Box's Joe PIckett series, but I have to say that I am not so fond of his stand-alone novels. I don't want to give anything away, but it really defied common sense that the "hero" didn't think to "get outta Dodge" with the ones who were in danger near the end. Come on, C.J., you can do better!
I was a little disappointed with BLUE HEAVEN, but then again the pretext is a little silly. A bunch of cops retire in a rural community and a criminal element emerges. If anything I would say this is a pretty good 'young adult' book, kind of G-rated. But not awful. Maybe good for a roadtrip with youngsters...?
I would not have listen to this one based on how it ended. Don't waste your time.
When you run out of great books to read, pick a stand-alone from a favorite author and hope for the best. That is what I did and wasn't disappointed. This is as good as you can expect for an alternate story from a writer of a great series like Joe Pickett.
Don't expect the author to be a master of a different genre, police detectives in this case. The book is well crafted with complex plot and engaging characters. It's failing is similar to a lot of novels, occasionally the characters don't do the obvious simple thing to resolve their predicaments which requires the reader to suspend his common sense.
Good story, With the unlikely hero.
Can't compare it to anything.
Didn't really like the narrator, at times, he made me feel like he was reading a story to a fifth grader. But the story, and most of the times, narration was good enough I kept listening.
No, mainly because of the narrator.
I have listened to most of the Pickett books. I have also listened to other CJ Box books this was the best out of the Pickett series.
Two children witness a brutal execution. One of the killers spots them and the children run with the killers hot on their trail. Great action, believable characters, and a story that will have you reading into the wee hours with nail biting interest.
I highly suggest all of C J Box books. I have read them all - first the Joe Pickett series and then all the stand alones like this one.
It was even better due to the narration of John Bedford Lloyd. He performed many different voices and they were all distinct.
Actually, I didn't want to be kept so very wide awake at night, but the book is a thriller.
The worse-than-you-could-imagine deceptions kept happening, and the setting and characters made it plausible.
C.J. Box kepts coming up with plots so bizarre that you "can't make this stuff up." I just hope he's making it up.
