This is an entertaining yarn, but the plot has some cliches and standard characters that, while colorful, have been over-used in crime fiction.
This series of books is great fun. This one starts it all off, but others are better as the characters develop and become more multi-dimensionsal. Still, this one is a good read. I could not stomach the narrator, though. Her voice was so annoying, and didn't sound at all the way I imagined Stephanie! I kept trying, thinking I would get used to it, but it just kept irritating me. I finally gave up and bought the paperback! Later books with Lorelei King as the narrator are MUCH better.
The grandmother's behavior in this book made me have to rewind three times before I could finally hear what I was missing because of laugher.
Looses too much in digestion. The few F words left in don't get the real humor across to the listner. I suppose that's why the later books are unabridged and controlled by the author. If I only have two hours to listen to a book I'd rather listen to cat in the hat or poobear unabridged.
i liked the story , and the narrator grew on me , wishing that it wasnt abridged though
being dyslexic, I never read allot but I loved books...doesn't mix right? NOPE...wrong...Audible allows me to "read" at a pace that works for me and they have a great selection of books to keep me interested. I'm a fiction , sci-fi, and adventure books with strong female characters reader. I have been on a Vampire kick lately so female protags have been on my list.
I would recommend a different reader of this book (not Lori Petty). I like Lori Petty as an actress, and her spunky, irreverent style.
However, as the reader of this book, I almost put it down...but I slogged through it.
I am glad I read "Two for the money" book 2 with a different reader, and realized how funny and cool the book was!! This book may just need a different reader...Love ya Lori, but the reading of this book, just didn't do any service to the story.
I do suggest the series of books by Janet Evanovich.
NO -Her acting is one thing...but her reading books...not so much.
About the series:
I laughed, and was "DANG" and found myself really loving the quirky and funny style of her heroine. This series is one of the few books I've found myself laughing out loud (no matter where I was) and enjoying the book so much I just wanted to keep reading and avoid work and friends.
I loved them both! It is really a choice of what is the best medium at the time you want to read/hear it. It would also be easy to go back & forth between the two.
Yes. Good twists but not so complicated that it wasn't fun.
I have listened to many books performed by Lori Petty & she is awesome! I love all her characters.
My favorite is when Grandma Mazur shoots the chicken....I almost ran off the road (I listen when I drive) even though I knew it was coming I still laughed!
Great combination, Janet Evanovich & Lori Petty
I have many times. It's just so entertaining and it is a clean enough story that you can listen with your pre-teen daughter. She loved it, too.
Stephanie, of course. Who else!?
Not that I know of. I don't pay a lot of attention to the names of the performers. I enjoy it more when they make the character come to life. Lori did just that.
When she walks into the bail bond shop and decides to become a bounty hunter. You can just picture it so clearly!
I can see why this series is so popular, with fast moving and entertaining story line with likable (and hateful) characters. Looking forward to the rest of the series.
The narrations kept things moving along
