Absolutely! The narrator somehow knows exactly how the book is to be read.
I don't want to say without spoiling it for others.
Everything! He is a master at changing his voice for each character! How he does it is a mystery! Beautiful jog!
First I really enjoyed the performance, I don't know whether the accent works as a Danish accent for Danes but it seemed reasonable compared to the Scandinavians I know. The only thing I wondered is whether it is necessary to have a foreign accent when the characters are actually speaking their own language? But in any case it worked for me.
While I could say that the story was a little predictable, and I think I did at the time, that is partially a middle aged man's experience and cynicism. We all try to predict where stories are going and by my age I should be quite adequate at it. That isn't a fair criticism of the book.
I enjoyed the world that Follett created, it actually made me want to visit Denmark. I enjoyed the people, though I didn't always agree with what they were doing, but there are always good and bad guys in stories or they wouldn't be worth reading.
I don't want to say too much because I think you should try this one for yourself too.
I just achieved App Scholar!! 1000 hours in 1 yr 7 mo and 10 days!!! I never thought I would make it this far!! Thanks Audible
Another great book by Ken Follett, This is my fourth book by Ken and he keeps pulling me in.. With out a doubt their will be more. in the Hornet Flight its up and down he will take out a main character in this book, and leave you on the edge. Its about two brothers tring to help out the resistance. The Germans are taking out all the British plains and they dont know how.. then the young brother Harold steps in and saves the day... Arnie and Harold's family life is complicated with there loving mother and strict preacher as a father. Both brothers has a love story in the mix,and always on their tail a detective that use to be best friends with Arnie but now hates their family...THIS IS A MUST READ....
This was a great listen - good characters, fast-paced plotting, and an interesting setting in WWII era Denmark. While the ending was definitely predictable, I didn't care. I enjoyed every minute.
Lover of good ideas
Ken Follett has written another great historical novel. Set in Europe during WWII, listening to this book, the novel quickly fades into the background and you find yourself living a dramatic period in world history. Like his other historical novels, Mr Follett has done his homework, and he makes that period come alive. He has you gripped by the power of the story and the characters are people you care deeply about or hate. Mr Follett doesn't confuse good and evil and his characters have both feet on one side or the other. Many of the good guys die in the story, but they offer their lives for a greater cause. The bad guys, like his others novels get their just desserts.
You will not go wrong listening to this audio book.
This is a great book for anyone interested in World War II and the resistance efforts in the various Nazi Occupied countries. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing things from the eyes of Harold. Listening in the car, there were many times I laughed and cheered out loud.
I enjoyed this book. My first endeavor into WWII and I found it to be very believable. People thrust into situations when they really had no experience in what to do. They were not expert spies just ordinary people trying to help out Britain in its war against Germany. I reccommend it to people with a sense of adventure
Hopelessly addicted to Audio Books! I started listening as a distraction to the aggravation of driving, now I listen all the time :)
Follett is wonderful! This book is absolutely terriffic. The reader does a fine job and makes the story truly enjoyable.
I love WWII spy novels, and I feel that this was one of the best. I could truly feel the characters, and am glad I got this one.
Follett is a master. With Hornet Flight Follett further clinches his place as my favorite author. I have read almost all of his titles, and this book comes second only to his epic Pillars of the Earth. While I normally don't enjoy listening to books as much as reading them myself, this novel was an exception due to the brilliant job Lee does with the narration. By far the most talented narrater I have listened to. The combination of a wonderfully written book and this exceptionally talented narrator makes Hornet Flight a great listen. You won't be able to hit stop!
