I don't like to listen to overly 'practiced' readers. They tend to exagerate emotions and all use the same sort of voice for charecter types, such as seductive women, psychotic man. That gets on my nerves. This reader does not do it. The story is faced paced and the reading subtle.
Unfortunately, this book's sample audio doesn't play for me, but I chose to get it anyway. This is the first time that I have ever had to stop listening to an audible book because of the reader (and I even listen to amateur books/readers). I made it 3 hours just because I HAD to see if I got used to it. I didn't.
She has absolutely zero inflection in her voice. Have you ever been to a yoga/meditation class? The instructors always have a very soft, peaceful and completely neutral voice. This reader sounds just like that even in the middle of fight scenes where she's describing flying bone fragments.
I have no idea whether the book itself is good or not because the reader was putting me to sleep. I will probably be buying this book in written form just to see if it's any good.
If you like vampire and werewolf romance, you will love this. This book is an original ... taking place in Australia, with guardians, strange creatures and lots (and LOTS) of moon lust!
Reilly is cooler than Anita Blake any day.
I listened to this book every free moment and even did my longest run (EVER) while listening to this great story. I'm off to the bookstore tonight to get more of this author -- too bad audible doesn't carry more of her titles.
If you like the Anita Blake series by Luarel K. Hamilton you'll like this book as well. It has a bit more sex then I thought the story needed but the plot and action was good. I enjoy tough females with a good sense of humor and a I can take you on type attitude. Hope to see more from this author soon.
This story had lots of little sub plots that involved the main character and supports
Riley is a gutsy and free thinking woman who is not totally focused on sex, even though this is shape shifter norm
I have to admit that the narrator had a terrible Aussie accent. The pronunciation of a few words made me laugh, good NewZealand accent however.
Despite the flaws in narration I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a new author in this genre.
THIS SERIES IS ANOTHER OF MY FAVORITES. THE STORY LINE IS GRIPPING AND KEEPS YOU LOCKED IN. THE CHARACTERS ARE INTERESTING AND EVERY SCENE IS WELL WRITEN. LOVE IT!
I know that one has to suspend reality to enjoy most fantasy books- and I do- however, the premise of this book about the sex drive and the full moon is just to hard to take. All werewolves have to stop and have marathon sex one week of every moon cycle or they have blood lust???? Or is it just the main character that can not deal with it?
If you can get beyond that- it is an ok listen.
I liked the book, But as an Australian from Melbourne I was disappointed that the narrator didn't have a real Australian accent... I liked the references to Melbourne rather than some US city. I also think that Laurel K Hamilton is better at writing sex scenes though, This writer still needs to work on hers, and have a bit more imagination...
