I would have given this 5 stars, but I had trouble with the heroine's thought processes. Her basic character is smart, strong and fearless, but then she crumbles into a dithering idiot. I felt like there should have been more information given to make such a leap in personality. All the characters have issues, but Jo-Ellen's is too extreme in her self-esteem.
Gotten a better story
Nora Roberts is a good author and I will purchase others she's written.
I loved this book. I was never exactly sure how it was going to turn out and it continued to keep me wanting for more. I am sad that it is done. I need to find another Nora Roberts soon...
I don't dislike Sandra Burr, but she is also not my first pick a narrator. Then again narration is in the ear of the listener. I have read numerous complaints about Tanya Eby but I find her a delight to listen to. As far as the story goes it was good and I liked the characters, but it was predictable. That being said I will most likely listen to it again some rainy afternoon where I don't want to concentrate to hard.
Another good one by Nora Roberts, Keep's your interest till the very end. I would recommend it to my friend's.
I love witty, fast-paced books that keep you turning the page.
I don't mind suspense and brief violence, but the graphic description of a rape just turned me off. I would have rated it a 2 and returned it, but I did that with Carnal Innocence and then didn't have the opportunity to rate it and warn off other listeners. That story was so bad that I had to stop after 6 hours. This story is much better, investing me in the characters enough to tough out finishing it, although I guessed who the murderer was in the first few chapters. I enjoy most of the "In Death" books, so it's not just the murders that bothered me, it was the graphic nature, and describing the rape in sexual terms that has me crossing this one off my "Listen again" list.
