I have recommended this book to friends and they are fans too!
The characters are interesting and well rounded. The interaction between Wanda and Mel is clever and I love how the two come to understand and even care for each other.
Not a fan of the narrator's voice, a bit high and winy.
I can't wait to see the movie.
Light entertainment reading, definitely for a snowy day or a beach day. The development of the story was done well with no areas of "waiting". I found myself really enjoying the main character, Wanderer "Wanda".
Allow Wanda actual intimacy with Ian. All these people in this unique cave, living as a community and there is no hint of intimacy to the degree that someone could have become pregnant. Nor is there any explanation as to why, the women did not concieve. The only one with childern actually came to the community with those childern
no I haven't @ this time
No extreme feelings other than enjoyment
The author now needs to write a second book..just don't leave Wanda in that small body of a young girl without developing her so she will eventually become Ian's wife or mate.
Well written story with great characters and insights in different points of view. Love the well fleshed out story line and the unique outlook from both the aliens and the humans. Definitely recommended to all my friends.
Yes already have
This one is a little slower paced
I like listening to Kate Reading
Makes me thing of the future and which might be needed
So many books...so little time! :)
I have read this book years ago, and with the movie coming out soon I wanted to refresh my memory and decided to listen to it this time. I loved this book the first time, and I love it even more having listened to it! Kate Reading does a really good job giving characters distinctive voices and acting the words out so well, making the book that much more enjoyable!
I admit the first time I read it, to concept behind the "souls" taking over the humans as hosts was a bit too much and took me a while to get into...however once you keep going you are hooked! The love story in here is complicated but oh so good and will keep you going till the end, which considering how long this book is, is surprisingly all too soon. I recently found out that Stephanie Meyer might make this a trilogy series...and I am eager to see where it will go if she does. We shall see! Now I just hope the movie does this book justice as it has a lot to live up to!!
wonderful love story
Melanie, for her spunk and love for Jared.
I don't think so, she was to old to play the part of Melanie and she wasn't very good at changing her voice between characters. I kept picture a middle aged woman, instead of a young woman in her 20's…it was distracting and took away from the story.
When Jared professed his love to Melanie to bring her back.
The power of imagination makes us infinite.
Really enjoyed the story. The story was well written and I think the narrator did a wonderful job!
Listening to stories as I drive to and from work is the best, making the drive a little more tolerable.
The turmoil caused such emotion I felt from the reader of the story that I found enjoyable. Listening to it on audible helps me be a better storyteller for my grandchildren when I read them their stories or those of my own writings.
I liked the conflicts between the characters whether it was within oneself or with others.
Here reading really helped differentiate the difference between Melanie and Wanda (Wanderer), even between the other characters.
I wish, but it is a huge book
I have listened to it many times...too many to count and I still catch little things that I missed
If you have time to waste, read this book. It is nothing special, but it will make the time go by faster then not listening to anything. The main character's constant wallowing and obsession with other characters is tiresome and excessive. It's like listening to a friend cry on your shoulder for 23 hours.
A happy ending for an undeserving character.
Kate's voice is unpleasant and has little range.
I've listened to at least 30 or so audiobooks from Audible at this point, and The Host ranks up there with the most entertaining to listen to. The reader had a number of character voices she used throughout, and was completely able to represent both Wanderer and Melanie through spoken word without complication. I always knew who was speaking, even without clarification, which is something to be impressed with given the nature of this storyline.
The narrator for The Game of Thrones is similarly entertaining to listen to, due to the number of character voices he creates for his read.
I enjoyed hearing the emotion and enthusiasm in her words. I actually felt like I was listening to a movie at times. She provided fear, anxiety, anger, timidity, and more to all her characters, which helped me forget I was listening to a book.
I'm afraid there is a film already being made for this book, and it will be released in March 2013. The tag line for it is: "Choose to believe. Choose to fight. Choose to Love."
