The story is so interesting and exciting! You get the thrill, adventure, sci fi, and romance all in one novel!
Can't wait for the movie!
I still haven't fully decided if this book was well worth my time. Stephenie Meyer definitely lives in her own world when it comes to love and romance. It's to be expected that she'll have a central female character with two male characters pining for her. That's the whole story. Not much substance.
I wouldn't. It is an ok book. Nothing spectacular.
No. It was kind of bland to begin with and her endings tend to simply taper off. Yet again one of her books has an uneventful ending.
Amazing. Epic. Realistic.
A memorable moment is when the main character, 'Wanderer" is explaining her species process for giving life.
At first, I didn't like it. I did not like the redundant cadence in which words were pronounced. I believe that it was like this do to the main character's point of view. Either that was the case or I got used to it and grew to enjoy it.
Several chapters are heart wrenching. My eyes did water and I sat fanning my eyes in my car. There are several moments like this in the book.
I am so glad I chose to download this audiobook. I was never inclined to read a trendy book. The Twilight Novels were never on my list of books to read. I am glad I did not cast away Stephanie Meyer as an author though. Right now, The Host is the best book I've read in well over a decade. I truly stand by it. Her writing style is phenomenal. The concept of the book appealed to me. A different option for the 'post-apoc' fan base. Not a zombie in sight. Something feasible. I am actually planning to read this book again, although I only just finished it. It is by far the favorite in my collection of not only audiobooks, but books period. I am glad I read before viewing the movie. It does make me more curious on seeing the movie as well.
Some sort of a plot ... I listened to 3 CDs and I still had no idea where this story was going.
Something with action and a plot
Kate was fine if that's your kind of book
Terribly disappointed to go through 3 CDs and still have no idea what the story is supposed to be.
I'll be careful of Stephanie Meyer stuff from now on.
Yes I would and have. Stephanie Meyer did a good job with this genre of sci-fi. It reminds you of other movies and books but she did a great job of making it a unique story.
I particularly liked the way the dialogue was between the alien and the human host, very believable.
I have not listened to Kate’s other performances and to be honest I really did not want to buy this book because the sample reading to me sounded robotic. But to give her some credit I already read the book in paperback and to listen to it was very different at first. But obviously I still bought because I didn’t have the time to read it again. Her performance overall was very good it suited the characters.
Yes I believe if I had not read the book before listening I would not have wanted turn it off.
I warn you now it takes a few hours to warm up but it’s worth the wait. This book is very fascinated and thrilling because it’s a different take on what we normally read about or see on TV of extraterrestrial activity. And Yes! It’s better than Twilight! Maybe not the whole saga but on its own very good and not what I was expecting of Meyer.
Stephanie Meyer's "Twilight" books never really hit a good spot with me when I read them, but I had friends who said this one was a good read. I wholeheartedly agree it's better than "Twilight," but I didn't like this one at all. The story was alright, but there were descriptions where maybe there could have been a lack of description. Or exactly the opposite. And the voice talent that was chosen to do this book was not who I would have picked. I felt like she didn't convey any sense of wonder or emotion except when she said "Jamie" in that pained, drawn out way that kind of made me want to put her out of her misery. Maybe she would be better in a different setting, but I just couldn't get behind the characters and story here.
Researcher/oral historian and fitness enthusiast from Austin, TX, currently residing in San Diego. I love to read, but traditional books require a person to be sedentary while reading. Audio books make it possible for me to increase both my physical activity and reading quantity.
I enjoyed this book for the story; I thought the story was original and interesting though it did drag in places. I did not like the narration. Normally, I'm not very picky about narrators and performance and I don't expect good acting or specialized voices; I just want someone to read well. Though the narrator read the book well, she read it in a very annoying computer/android voice. It literally sounded like my computer was reading the text to me. Then, when she wanted to portray different human female characters, she made her voice simpering, weak, or whiny. Most of the book is written through the view-point of a "rational", "logical" alien who is stuck in an emotional human body, so I get why the narrator was trying to sound like an android for those parts and like an over-emotional whiner during the human female dialogue but I didn't like it at all. Oddly, the narrator did an excellent job with the male characters; the only time I wasn't annoyed by her narration was when she did the dialogue for the male characters.
Woman, 33 years old, Attornay at Law, DK. In order for a book to be truly great, it must inspire, intreague and a keep me up till dawn.
I have loved Stephanie and the Twilight books forever, but this is just wrong!! I could not wrap my head around it, and I forund the story not only repulsive but even worse extremely dull! You could cut out every other page and not even notice it... Stay away before it really ruins your relationship to Stephanie Meyer all together.
It kept my interest. I had to get used to the readers voice, but it eventually fit well into the Sci- Fi setting of the book. I'm looking forward to seeing the movie that will be coming out soon.
My girlfriend downloaded this, and I was out of books, so I listened to it. It was engaging, had a unique plot, suspenseful moments and good character development.
When I finish a book, and don't have another in mind, I look up other books by the authors of books I found good, as I'm sure everyone does. I was shocked, and extremely horrified, when I saw the list of books this author had written. Thankfully I found this out after I listened to The Host, since I once tried to watch the movie based on the series that must not be named, and I had to gouge my eyes out, which is why I have to listen to audiobooks now. My only complaint is that was a touch mushy for my taste at times, but considering Stephenie Meyers' previous titles, not nearly as bad as it could be.
