Within the first few minutes I was laughing out loud as I usually do while listening to this series. I have listened to all but one so far of all David Rosenfelt's books he has written to date. I am partial to the Andy Carpenter stories, of which this is one. I enjoy the light mystery and the familiar characters. Always recommend these books to friends and acquaintances. Got hooked starting with Play Dead and loved New Tricks and One Dog Night. I intermix these reads with other authors. I turn to these ipod selections when I want to relax and smile. Would recommend his other books too, some stories are slightly better than others as is expected from any author.
Mr. Rosenfelt is a very entertaining writer and includes his passion for dogs in his works. The Andy Carpenter series are right up there with the most entertaining books I have listened to. At times the humor and wit that is interjected into the book has me laughing out loud. My wife and I have listened to all of the series at least twice. I find the audio books even more entertaining than the paper version due to the excellent reading of Mr. Grover Gardner. To me, the voice inflections and totally believable portrayal of the wisecracking Andy are without the best that they can be. To me, Mr. Gardner IS Andy Carpenter and could not easily be replaced by any other reader. I find myself actually envisioning how Andy and all of the characters look and believe me there are some entertaining and unusual characters in the series. When I listen to these books I get totally engrossed and find myself traveling inside the books covers. I highly recommend this series.
Rosenfelt writes dialog that is both funny and believable. The characters are like friends you have or would like to have. The plot keeps you guessing and Andy keeps you laughing
I din't read the print version
I liked this book, not because it is a deep read or examines the meaning of life. It is just plain fun. The main character was charming and funny, living an intense life one moment and a regular one the next. The eternal question of who defends a nasty criminal will never be answered, so we can have an interesting trip along the way. All the while knowing that the bad guy is really innocent, otherwise why the story. A nice read.
I love this series. Right mix of serious mystery plot line with wonderful self deprecating humor. I find myself laughing while listening on the bus and wonder what folks think of me.
Noah writes and daydreams for the pure joy of transposing his thoughts to the written word. His adventures & dog Dusty are his escape!
I love how the characters continue to develop with each entry into this series. Although it is preferable to do this series in order it is not a necessity. You get to know the characters so well that you think you know what they are going to do and then ZING! a curve is thrown at you. All in all a very enjoyable listen.
Oh, that's not fair! This whole series is wonderful! I think I like the first one best, because it sets up the premise for all of them. I just hope the author doesn't go too far into the super-crime, super-villain pitfall. It actually gets too predictable when the good guy saves the world in every book. Keep it human scale, I beg of you. No super-psychos either.
I like moments when Andy is with Vince and Pete, and the ones when he can't keep his mouth shut when talking to the judges. I love the way Laurie can handle Andy too.
I've listened to the whole series, so far, and Grover Gardner really makes Andy come alive. I would enjoy reading the print version, but I probably would not enjoy it as much as I do when he reads them. He does a touch of the accent, more of the rythm of speach, and it sets off the humour perfectly! I would probably get the humour anyway, but his reading has the perfect touch.
I laughed out loud, and bit my nails at the same time!
This is a really good no stress listen. The action is great and the charactors interesting. Worth the money
I love Andy Carpenter's humor
I enjoyed the whole book
I've only listened to this series.

I put off buying and listening to this book as I really hate abridged versions. This series is so wonderful, I want to enjoy every morsel! Ergo, only four stars instead of five. The lss is more because it did not run smoothly because parts were left out. I am amazed authors would ever agree to aving thier work chopped up like this!!
David Rosenfelt is a talented writer, Grover Gardner compliments the authors wonderfully. I know I will not be dissappointed by either one of these components.
