EveLynn in Kissimmee
This story was not particularly memorable although when I hear the title I remember it with a smile. So I enjoyed it but it's a playful book for in the moment - a light and fun way to pass a few hours on the road.
Predictable, Cinderella story. Okay if you're in the mood for a simple love story without much meat.,
The narrator is slightly lisping (just a tad!). The story and the characters remind you of those in Bridget Jones books. If none of the above bothers you, you'll enjoy the book AND the narration enormously! I am adding Kate Reading (a.k.a. Johanna Ward, real name: Jennifer Mendenhall) to my favourite narrators list, after Rosalyn Landor! Buy this book if you want to take your mind away from any gloomy thoughts you may have in your head - it will work better than any yoga class! Great fun!
The narrator sounded way too old in her portrayal of 25-year-old Emma, and her voice for Jemima was even worse - she sounds like a wizened grandma. I thought Jack sounded a little like John Wayne and in general, I didn't like her attempts at male voices.
The odd narration wasn't enough to turn me off from this story, but it did knock my rating down from a 5 to a 4. Chick lit is my favorite genre - the flufflier, the better. They don't come much fluffier than this! Kinsella is definitely one of the best authors in the genre, and this book proves why. Emma is a likeable, relatable character, and I found myself really rooting for her to succeed.
I would love a sequel, but I would only listen to it if there's a new narrator.
I have listened to a couple Sophie Kinsella's books, and this is true to her style. This story was a riot. Its a great idea, to have secrets and then to blurt them all to someone...only to have to see them again. I laughed and cringed, and had a blast listening to it. If you like Chic Lit, and I am always very cautious... you will LOVE this listen!!
This is a wonderful book if you want something fun and not too serious. Written in the first person, you get to know the characters thoughts and feelings. There were areas I laughed out loud, felt the embarrassment with her, and could totally relate. Great book!
I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book. I found myself entralled in the plot and left wondering what would happen next from chapter to chapter. Highly recommend!
I was disappointed. I was distracted by the frequent and unnecessary use of s**t and f**k. Emma comes across as an idiot. Just a wrong choice for me.
