Another great adventure from Clive Cussler. We come to expect great adventure, excitement and fun. Cussler intertwines history and interesting information with action and colorful and descriptive story telling to spin a truly enjoyable tale. Spartan Gold does not dissappoint.
Nobody gets that lucky that often and professionals that often unprofessional. There were too many cases were our heros should have just gotten shot by the "professionals" and what ever they had in treasures been taken. Also I loved the history lesson the author did not spend enough time developing plausible scenarios how our heros get out of sticky situations.
I am a registered nurse and a father of four great kids. I live in a rural part of Oregon and love it. I enjoy books, but Sci-Fi Fantasy has allows been the ones I reach for more than others.
Yes, if you like Cussler's work in the past, i.e. Dirk Pitt, then you will enjoy meeting the Fargos. A married couple with no need to really work anymore, they go adventuring (my fantasy by the way) and have a love for history and history's secrets. So let the adventures begin.
Salma-the Fargos research assistant who is a computer hacker, forensics genius, and anything the Fargos need her to be.
Good introduction book for this series. Enough adventure mixed in with intrigue and comedy to keep the reader interested.
I listen to a bit of everything. Mostly Fantasy and paranormal romance with my wife. Along with mysteries/thrillers, even some sci-fi.
I would have liked to see more development with the Fargo's and how they got into treasure hunting. I think that would have made a better intro novel.
The historical aspects of the different cultures and how they tied in together. From Napolean, to the Greek Spartans and Persian empire, it was a neat concept for a story.
Scott Brick did a really good job with the villans and the Fargo's. The other minor characters had unique voices, but there wasn't much outstanding to them. Brick's performances always exceed expectations, and this is no exception when it comes to the Fargos and all the antagonists, he really does well with their Eastern European accents.
It's a solid book and an easy listen. It kept me wanting to find out what happened next, and in true Cussler form, he loves describing his cars. It wasn't the best Cussler novel, but I think I will give another book in this series a go when I'm in a treasure hunting mood, since good treasure hunting novels are hard to find, espically with no crazy supernatural or completely fictional universes.
Amazingly, this is the first Clive Cussler book I've purchased (in audio format). The Fargo's are an interesting duo and their adventures in this book kept my interest. Like all adventure books, this one has many twists and turns, but I never found myself thinking "get on with it, already!" All in all, a good adventure book with a husband and wife team taking on the ne'er do wells.
I liked all the characters, including the bad guys.
I wanted to like this book. It started out pretty good with the Napoleon/Nazi connection, but just became a monotonous string of action with no character development and no point.
The heroes could have killed the bad guys a hundred times and didn't. The bad guys could have killed the heroes a hundred times and didn't. These treasure hunters travel all over the world and every scene is the same. They show up, the bad guys chase them, they get away and then end up in some other remote section of the planet and it starts all over again. I tried to get through the book by listening to it at triple speed on my i-Pod, but it was just too tedious. I'm about an hour from the end and I just can't take it any more. As far as the characters are concerned, I hope they all die.
Apparently they don't because there is a sequel.
Scott Brick did a good job narrating but he couldn't save it.
Read the books in wrong order but Spartan Gold is better.Cussler knows how to go back in history.Sam and Remi are his latest hero`s
Good entertaining book. Descent adventure with history and myth mixed into treasure hunting. If you're just looking for something fun it's worthwhile.
We actually bought book 5 in this series from Costco and were immediately addicted. This is a very good action/suspense/mystery series with a lot of historical background and NO FOUL LANGUAGE. Clive Cussler is our new favorite author. We'll be listening to everything we can get our hands on by this author.
