I will highly recommend this title. Shinzen Young is amazing. He has deep knowledge of multiple subjects, and amazing voice. If you are interested in the path of meditation and enlightenment, please buy this audio-book. I will suggest listenting it at least twice, so you can appreciate the depth of this audio-book. I wish he had more audio-books on this subject.
I enjoy audio books and blogging.
Practical explanations for meditation and enlightenment are abundant.
I liked the use of science and math to explain enlightenment.
The narrator's voice conveyed understanding of the topic and concern for the reader.
The declaration of enlightenment.
At this point in my career this is the best explanation of enlightenment. A beautiful work that belongs in my library.
Seriously, if you are from a western culture you will benefit greatly from Shinzen's talks. He speaks directly and does not waste your time with psudo-mystical B.S. Many of your question about meditation will be answered and you will be provided with practical tools and actionable advice. I've listened to this book twice now. It is very dense and you will want to take notes or bookmark sections to revisit many times. Also Shinzen has a good sense of humor and is very warm and genuine which helps a great deal.
Straight talk... thank you Shinzen!
Yes but it is far too long
Easily worth three credits but only costs one!
Demystifies the practice and purpose of meditation in a soothing and comfortable way.
The cross cultural insights into how meditation has been lost to the Christian religion, sadly.
.This is an incredible resource.
finally. clear. intelligent. practical. real. experienced
YES. wish I could do just that.
Shinzen Young explains the practical science behind enlightenment and mediation in an easy to understand practical way. I f you are curious about mediation, without getting over involved in the religious aspects, this is a great book.
I enjoyed his unbiassed views of religion and would recommend this as a superb source of information together with practical meditation sessions to get you started in meditation.
Broaden your mind
Shinzen Young's explanation of meditation is fascinating. It helped me see the world in a different way. Mr Young has a pleasant and clear voice and the book contains theory and practice. First I listened to the whole thing in the car and when I was at the gym, then I used the guided meditations.
Mr Young's formal training is in Buddhism, however he has studied meditation as it is practiced by many religions and cultures, as well as looking at meditation from a scientific angle.
Highly recommended for those who are interested in practicing meditation. I know I will listen to the whole book again and again.
Haven't read it in print.
None that I've come across.
The beginning and the portion where he goes into the history of Buddhism.
Shinzen is a very knowledgeable and tactful teacher. He exhibits a breadth and depth of knowledge about the subjects of meditation, buddhism and modern science that can be easily understood... if you're paying close attention.
I think the key is:
You have to be very focused when listening. It's not an
Not unless they were SERIOUSLY into meditation.
I believed this book was about Enlightenment, but 6 hours into it, I realize it is about MEDITATION, which to me, is one path to enlightenment and not one that totally interests me at this point. So, I got bored with it.
I was hoping this was so much more. I was really dissapointed the topic was so narrow.
Nothing is bad about the audio book, it just isn't what I had expected. It should have been called
No nonsence, here is the way to let go of all the pain. Detailed reasoning for techniques, and 5 guided meditations to choose from.
Thank you Shinzen Young.
