The book itself was every bit as fun as the first 4. I really enjoyed it. I hope there are more to come. The character is endearing, and a lot of fun to spend time with. The problem I had with Shopaholic and Baby was the narrator. She sounded stuffy and formal, which is so far afield of Becky Bloomwood. I found it distracting. And, she made Luke sound like some caricature of a British butler or something. Not to mention "Suzy" instead of "Suze". The narrator who read Shopaholic and Sister was good (not as good as Emily Gray but at least she got the tone of the character right), but let's face it. Emily Gray is the voice of Becky. I hope if there's another book in the series she'll narrate.
I love to listen to well-written, well-researched books. Time is too valuable to waste on anything less, not to mention our credits and $$$!
This is the BEST Shopaholic ever. Rosalyn Landor is the perfect narrator for this book, and should be on a very short list for narrating the (hopefully) NEXT in the series. If you love the Shopaholic books, this one is FAB! Get it today!
Yes, its a fun story to add to the Shopaholic series.
Shopaholic and Sister
The voices match perfectly with the characters!
Danny. He's a ridiculously fab designer with high maintenance tendencies.
The story line in this one was MUCH better than Shopaholic and Sister which almost made me stop listening to the series. I didn't want to strangle Becky (more than usual) and I really wanted to keep listening. The story line seemed more realistic and like she had matured somewhat.
The narrator though was terrible. She clearly didn't listen to previous versions to see how things should have been pronounced. Suze is not Suzy, Arcodus was wrong... all the male characters sounded the same and Becky herself sounded like she was 50 years old and way more mature. Emily Gray really had nailed it and nobody has really been able to match her. It really makes a difference in how the book is portrayed. Reading this one would have been better.
I love most books that transport me to another time and place & books that uplift my spirit.
I love these books, however, I do NOT love the changing Narrators. A series should keep the same narrator throughout, especially when the current narrator does not double check the series to see how names are pronounced and the characters are read. Ex. Suzie, is Sooze and always has been from day 1. I miss the last narrator who read Shopoholic & Sister.
Other than that, the story continues on about Rebecca's never ending shopping desires and must haves. Amusing and entertaining. I like to listen to these books in between deep and heavy storylines.
I was very surprised to hear this book. I've never heard an audio book before but I thought I'd give it a try... I was very surprised to hear the British accent, it's nice though. I thought it sounded a bit robotic and choppy. I'll have to hear it more to maybe get used to it. Just not what I was expecting at all.
I've listened to and enjoyed the others - narrator on the 1st three was terrific, 4th not bad - this one terrible!!!! Hideous shock upon beginning to listen. Don't want to finish.
did the producer forget to audition the narrator for this actual book? It's such a disappointment to hear names destroyed. I won't abandon this one but the others have been far superior. I just love Becky's take on life and her rationalizations for her outrageous behavior! In each book I laugh out loud so frequently. I love it!
Once you get this far into the series, you, of course want to finish it. The story wasn't as good as the others, but it's worth reading. So I recommend it, however...
As others have mentioned the narrator was terrible. I adored Emily Gray in the first 3 Shopaholic books and the women who did 4th wasn't too bad. But the women who narrated this last book must not have listened to the other books. I cringed every time she pronounced "Suzy" instead of "Suz," plus the major company in the novel was pronounced wrong as well. Everyone sounded much older in this book, especially Suze and Luke.
But overall it's a really good series to read.
