I enjoyed this book. I have read other reviews where they say it goes back and forth, I enjoyed the present/past. I was always eager to see Shiva and Marion' new development. I enjoyed it so much and the details of food, places and feelings were so extraordinary, that I am currently looking for a local traditional African restaurant to see what they experienced in this novel.
Looking forward to another book by this author.

Suni Malhotra brings this story into vivid view, has his voice age with the character, and made me feel the main character was conversing over a cup of tea. His dramatic expertise coupled with the gifted language and story by Abraham Verghese inspired me to listen a second time! I HIGHLY recommend this audio.
Cutting for Stone is one of those books that rarely come along that is written about unusual people that we many can relate to and are intrigued by. The author does a great job with creating the storyline and developing the characters. Witch leads you though a very compelling story; one that I found harder to put down as the story continued. This book does tell a story that could have really happened. With all the well written descriptions that bring the reader into the situation as though you are really there. Descriptions that sometimes led me to searching out the meaning or places on the web. Not that this was a need to read the book, but because the story engaged and pushed me to learn more.
This is one of those books that will occupy a special place ing my memory, as one of the best books I have ever read.
The reader did a fantastic job in bring this book to life, and his accent just added to the flavor and enjoyment of the book.
This is not only a fantastic book but a sensational narration as well! I was initially put off by his female character's voices, I was terribly annoyed and felt they were unrealistic, but I eventually grew to abide it and then appreciate his talent. Do not be put off by fear of medical jargon or the book's length (I myself love longer books)-this book will keep you on the edge of your car seat! It is fascinating and rich in detail. The character's are all well rounded and very real. I cannot wait for another book by Abraham Verghese!
Beautifully narrated. Although this book was hard to get through the first very long trauma of birth and death, I am glad I perserved. What a thoughtful, brilliantly themed book. Medical detail was just that, 'detailed,' but you can rush through that as i didnt find it imperative to the story too much. Made me smile and cry and characters were so well defined, felt like I knew them personally. Buy it! you won't be sorry!
An epic story both totally engrossing and beautifully written. The narrator does an excellent job of conveying the emotions described.
I bought this book because of all the rave reviews, but I was unable to finish it. I found the story to be plodding and rather gruesome. On the plus side, I did like the narrator.
Excellent reader for what is likly the best book of the decade, a long book that is hard to put down or stop listening to. I have this in both audible and book form and enjoy them both
I have had my audible.com membership for about a year now, got it to make it through a cross-country move. Listened to The Help for my first choice and have been a little disappointed with all others since then.... until I came to Cutting for Stone. Amazing! Loved the story, the characters, the reader, everything about it! It is long but definitely worth the listen.
Th narrator is excellent, and the book is truly amazing. What a wonderful cast of characters and plot. This book goes into my list of the top 20 books I have ever read.
