I had this on my wish list for a long time. I was hesitant because it was two credits. All I can say was it was worth it!
I don't mind getting stuck in traffic...as long as I have an audio book playing.
I know Africa. I have lived there and now live in the US. I can completely relate to everything the writer said...the food, smells, culture, and the people. It was excellent.
Sunil was challenged with telling a story that straddled multiple cultures and continents. He did so remarkably well.
Gosh...I am not sure how to spell the name. I heard, not read the story.
Moving, engaging, heartfelt
Not sure, but it's so sweeping, story of migration, circumstance, the little twists in a life that change everything that comes after...wonderful characters you get to know.
Too many and all so interwoven, maybe when Thomas Stone shows up in the operating room during the liver repair, you know he will reappear but this is just an amazing re-entry.
When Marion finds out that Shiva told Hema everything on their way to New York.
Cutting for Stone is one of the best audiobooks I have ever listened to.
"Screw your courage to the sticking place!!"
Shiva, because the was the most interesting character who made the ultimate sacrifice.
I highly recommend this book. Worth every second of listening time.
Yes. The story is unique, wonderful and extremely well written. The narrator does an excellent job with accents and story telling. I cannot remember a narrator I enjoyed listening more.
I just re-listened to this book for the 3rd time. The story and the characters are all so rich and moving. I'm hoping Mr. Verghese writes another book soon!
Devoted reader and reading teacher. I don't know what I would do without Audible! Lets me do all my chores and still get my "reading" in!
This is a wonderful story full of twists and turns, wonderfully developed characters and a sense of the sacred in ordinary things. I loved this book! In fact, right after finishing it, I went right back to the beginning to listen to the first 1/3 of the book again. I wanted to hear it again knowing what I then knew.
I was never bored with this book. The narrator is wonderful, his use of accents (which can be very tricky) was right on target. It really added to the story. This is an exceptional story told by someone who is obviously in the medical field. But instead of feeling like an outsider, the reader is drawn into that field and feels along with the surgeon. And that is just a tiny part of what makes this redemptive story so special. Great book!
A decent story, but spent a lot of time on medical details that may be interesting if you're in that profession but weren't to me. Well narrated.
If you like books that involve different cultures and world locations, you will like this book. If you love character development and historical novels you will love this book.
Skip it if you like westerns and romance novels. This is the best book I have read/listened to in close to a year (and I read a lot). The narrator did a fantastic job and the story is phenom!
As an entreprenuer, it is hard for me to shut off my brain! It is also hard for me to sit still! I love audibles! I can exercise, work on "chores" , travel and be entertained! Always looking for a good story!
A wonderful novel to hear, the narrator captured the spirit of the characters and I felt I had known each of these remarkable people! Thank you Audibles!
