Touching, moving, amazing. I couldn't do anything but listen to this book for the past two days. There are many amazing snippets of philosophy. I loved it.
Long, very detailed, great character development, wonderful story--yes, yes, yes and yes. I was immediately swept up into the life of Marion Stone and the lives of those around him. The medical detail was fascinating as was this tragic/happy glimpse into the country and people of Ethiopia post WWII.
I am not usually drawn toward books which have a strong religious element as part of the theme, but the author so successfully used it as a vehicle through which to view the characters and move the plot along that it was a necessary part of the context.
Sunil Malhotra was a great reader; in no time at all I was convinced he actually was Marion. What a thoughtful, well-written book.
This is a great listen. The story is fascinating and the narrator excellent. Lots of medical discussion set mostly in the 1940's to late 60's. It is long but kept my interest the entire book. Sad to see it finish.
This audio book is definitely in my top 5. Moving, compelling, clear...fantastic writing and narration! Highly recommend this one!
I have been listening to audio books for quie a few years now and this is one of the best!!! I am now nearing the end of it and I am trying not to listen to it so often. A sure fire sign that is is an amazing book and exceptionally well read.
Attorney & Artist
An engaging story, beautifully narrated. Set at a surgery theatre in an Ethiopian mission and then at a New York hospital, it follows the lives of twins, and one in particular, from his difficult birth forward. I had been intrigued after hearing the author on Terry Gross' Fresh Air. It's so nicely done, I'll sometimes choose it over music on my iPod. This would be my pick for novel of the year. If he writes a sequel, I'm very interested.
A great epic story that started out slowly for me, but took off and I was hooked. I enjoyed every time I got into the car for a long drive. I saved my credits for two months to get this gem! The medical and surgical descriptions were quite detailed and might not be for all readers.
Probably one of my new top 10 books of the past few years. Engagingly brilliant book and wonderful narration....couldn't stop listening to it...
I absolutely loved this book. You can't get better: An amazing story, beautifully written, with superb narration. I didn't want it to end. And the characters stayed with me for days. Truly a memorable listen. Please don't hesitate on this one.
Cutting for Stone is definitely one of THE best books I've ever read or listened to. Verghese wrote a masterpiece and Sunil Milhotra was the perfect narrator for the work. This is my first review (and probably my 100th audio book!) but I wanted to pay homage to such a brilliant collaboration. Please Mr. Verghese, get us another book SOON!
